Star apple, also called Kaymito in my country, is a round green fruit that turns dark brown when ripe. The tree grows around fifteen meters high and it's tips have hair. The leaves and branches are rich with sap and it is used for resin. It is preferable that it is eaten when the skin is having brown specks and not completely brown. It is sweet and it's sap looks like milk. The skin is not eaten,so it is opened by pressing it between to hands like opening a mangosteen. The skin sometimes have bitter latex that it should not be mixed with the fruit. It is popularly known that the fruit is good for people with diarrhea, diabetes and ulcer. We have one outside the house and every fruitful season we could collect around thirty fruits.

Yea, I miss those times when my dad would also harvest them and we'll feast on them and finish less than an hour. I hope it would be a fruitful season after the rain because I'm hungry for some star apple ^_^

Yea, it didn't worked but it's okay. Ah, star apple can be spelled in caimito too. It looks better typed that way. What happened to the tree, why "used to have"?

Hi vijaisrirangan :D We also have star fruit, in our country it is called balimbing. Star fruit looks like a star because of its shape. Star apple is round, the reason it have "star" in its name is because when you cut it in half horizontally, there is a star at the center. It is very cute but we don't normally cut it in half to eat it.
