I have an old super 8 movie camera that was my parents. There are alot of films with it - I think mainly of me as a toddler. I know we can do alot with new technology but I was wondering if I can get these films put onto dvd so I always have copies.

The easiest method is to use a video camera, the same way pirates do it, to record the movie. Transfer the recording on to your computer. Change the video format if you want to, anf then have the file(s) burned on a CD or DVD. There are various software to convert the video file(s). All the best in your efforts.

Ahh...so you mean play the movie on a projector, video it with a video camera & then copy it onto my computer so I can burn it? That sounds fairly easy...now I just need a video camera which I know I will be buying soon.

That was what I meant, and sorry for not being explicit. As far as I know, and I used to have one in the early 1980's, 8mm projectors do not have a function to have a movie directly recorded into a camcorder or computer. I believe you can get the services of a specialised studio but the cost may not be worth it.

Why not seek the help of professional videographers to do the copying of the projected film for you before acquiring the video camera yourself? By the way rosdimy is supposing you have the 8mm projector too. I hope you do. Otherwise you may have to find some professional who may still be having all editing equipment. These days quite a lot of enterprises have cropped up doing all sorts of conversions. Some of them may be of help to you. Of course, you have to weigh the cost against your sentiments!

well if you want to do it directly you need special machines for it. But if your tv accepts it to be replayed. The best thing is to just video your tv. But of course the quality will be somewhat less than the original.

This is very true...I haven't seen the film in years & wouldn't know what quality the original film is either.
