Finally caught on camera is the feathered menace that has been seeing off all the young water fowl (or a lot of them) in the area around me. It is a merlin - picture enclosed. It looks pretty enough doesn't it, but it is a greedy little blighter. Do you have unusual birds near to you.

Wow, that is such a pretty bird. I live in a urban city, so I don't expect in seeing an unusual bird around my city. The closest thing to a beautiful bird here was a pet bird gone loose. It ended up on my drive way, and it couldn't fly. I killed it with my car ...I am just kidding ! I captured it, and fed it till I found the owner. Anyway, I wish I could of seen that bird up close!

There is a birdwatching spot just outside my house that looks out onto the River Lune and the Lancaster Canal - we get hundreds of bird watchers here and we see some beautiful birds, we are very lucky. Last night as I walked home from the village a lovely barn owl flew right past me, wish I'd had my camera!!
