Amy Adams as Janis Joplin

I'm a big fan of Janis Joplin, and I haven't heard this rumour before, but I think I agree with you about Amy Adams. She's too cutesy and perky. That said, I suppose it's only fair to give her a chance, but I'd be surprised if she could pull in a convincing performance. I'm sure I heard before that P!ink might have played her and I've heard her sing a couple of Janis' songs and she did a really good job. It might be good to pull in a new actress for an unknown face to play her.

Visually I think Adams could pull it off and having seen some of Adams more serious roles she is an impressive dramatic actress capable of taking on characters which aren't fluffy. It's just her most prominent movies have tended to be those ones where she plays cutesy, slightly fluffy characters and so that is the public perception of her. I think she could do it, but she will need a director who will lead her and encourage her to find the emotion of Joplin rather than just trying to imitate the characteristics.
