I am afraid that this can happen. But is good to remember that even the Oracle DB got a free version for developers, so maybe they are not all that evil. We just can wait and see, but i am sure that if Java become priced, it will gonna be a big blow to the opensource softwares. Let's hope it does not happen!!

I like java comparing .NET . Because java is a open source. We can do lot things with open source. If oracle start pricing for java. Then it market value will be decreased.Since most people use java because it is free.:)

With that acquisition I think there will be more products that would be launched but I bet it would be pricey. Some parts of it would be open source but it is for their benefit since they could perfect their software with the use of open sourcing. I just hate how they are monopolizing the software industry.

I don't think Java is really much of a revenue source for Sun Microsystems. Sun is, after all, a designer and producer of high-end workstations. Java probably just helps Sun to sell more hardware. Anyway, I was just surprised last February when I learned about the sale of Sun to Oracle. I think Oracle has some big strategy going so I'm just waiting for it to materialize somehow. By the way, open source doesn't mean free (or zero cost). Free, as used in open source projects, mean that there are no restrictions for users or developers. So, everybody is free to make money on any open source product. Or, everybody is free to use open source products any way they want.
