Worst Vacation Ever

In early June, my family went to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. I have a 6 year old boy and a 5 year old girl. We stayed at Dreams Palm Beach and were told that this was a 5 Star Resort and would be the nicest place we had ever stayed. IT WAS NOT!!!
When we got our room, it was tiny. It had two beds with about two feet in between then and two feet on the sides. There was only two dresser drawers and a closet with a few shelves. We decided to go eat dinner before we unpacked. When we came back, my girl slipped on the floor as we walked in. Their was so much condensation on the floors it looked like someone put a hose to it. I had to take the comforters off of the bed so we could walk and they brought a commercial dehumidifier. My wife went down to complain and got nowhere because Dominican men don't respect women. Finally, I got us upgraded to the Honeymoon Suite for no charge. It was a lot nicer.
The resort itself was not all that great. We were told that the snorkeling and beaches would be fabulous. The beach had boats docking on either side of where you could swim, so it churned up seaweed and the water was not all that great. We took a snorkeling trip to this place that was supposed to be the best we had ever done. It sucked. Everything was dead and not many fish.
The food at the resort sucked.
It rained by about 2:00 each day.
On the day we were to leave, my son got an ear infection and we had to go to the hospital. That in itself was an adventure going to a 3rd world hospital. They would not let him fly, so he and I had to stay while my wife and daughter flew back. We ended up having to stay an extra five days. Then they had no flights to Cincinnat, so we had to fly to Chicago and drive back home.
I will never go back to Punta Cana. WORST TRIP EVER.
Anyone have stories like this?

I is a pity you had such a horrible vacation. I have not had the same experience with man: they have always respected me wherever I have gone
.
I have gone to many resorts as I havve a timeshare and I trade resorts all over the world. Not all are the same. There are places where resorts rooms are very small as space is very expensive there. It happened to me in resorts in Spain: they were a lot smaller than the ones I had had in other places. I had a gian resot in Orlando and a tiny one in Palm Beach. That´s the way it is.
How come you had one room for 4 people? Or was it two rooms? I´m interested in your experience as Dominican Republic is one of the places where I want to go. But then I travel alone or with another grown up. It is very different to travel with children.
Take care!

Not sure why our room was only one room with two beds. I would think that at a 5 star resort it would have been much better, but it wasn't When we upgraded to the Honeymoon suite. It was two rooms. A big living room and one King size bed, so we all slept on the big bed. We have been to several place in Mexico, the Bahamas, Jamaica and all have been much better than this place.

What is a timeshare exchange? I have that and the only place I´m sure I know what it is is the place I bought. The exchanges are risky. But I can get pictures of them though.

gosh, no, the worst I ever had was a motel 6 in amarillo, the first room had a big wet spot on the BED and the second room had flies - discovered if we shut the bathroom and killed the ones in the room, we did all right, they were coming in and open vent in the bathroom - complained about that before we left

Wow, that sounds totally horrible. I hate dirty places. We definately would have had to leave, too. Makes me think of the cabin the Griswalds stay in in the first National Lampoons Vacation movie:)

I am very sorry to hear that you had the worst trip ever in the Dominican Republic. I have heard some other tales of trips there that haven't been pleasant or have been really horrible. The most common problem was dirty food handling leading to food poisoning.
I used to be a backpacker and now I am an independent traveler. The worst place I stayed at was in Bukittingi in Sumatra, Indonesia. I saw a note on the wall in my room saying "Don't sleep here. These beds and bed bugs and fleas. So check out now". I went to tell the manager but it was getting too late to find somewhere better to stay. I moved to a triple room. That night rats were running across the floor. The next day I asked some other foreign backpackers were was a decent place to stay. They told me and I went to stay there having a wonderful time.

There was an article not too long ago on aol news about hotels and how in pictures they make everything look glamarous. Then when you get there you realize trickery of camera angles made a panoramic view look magnificent when truly whoever was taking the pictures must've had to squeeze inbetween the bed and the dress and zoom the camera focus out.
It sounds like you had a terrible trip, but atleast you did get upgraded free of charge, though it's not right that your wife got no respect from the Dominican men.
I don't have any worst vacation stories ever.
