Does the Mom duty (gut instinct to guide your children) ever go away?

I know we all try to protect our children for the rest of our lives but this is ridiculous. Last weekend my hubby and I were going to the summer place as usual. We have three dogs and the plan was to take the mom and dad with us. Our three children were going to make sure any dogs left behind would be cared for while we were away. They always do a great job with this so that wasn't a question. As we loaded the truck I didn't think a thing of it. But once we opened the door to actually leave I couldn't stand it! None of the boys were home yet, so baby dog would be left behind in a dark house all by herself! The old "don't leave the baby home by herself" alarm went off and we took her with! What's with that? I know animals are animals and people are people. But this was ringing the wrong bell. Does this sound weird to you?

Nobody is perfect in this world. Every body makes mistake but it is our duty to learn from mistake and no to repeat same mistake again.

I don't think this is so much a "mistake" as it is gut instinct that may never really "go away" once it's been turned on by motherhood. Thanks for your input!

A mother can never stop being a mother. No matter how old your children get to be, you will always worry about them. You want to be able to always guide them. Sometimes they do not appreciate your guidance or help. I don't see how you can be a mother and not always have the feelings to want to be there for your children.

Luckly we don't go anywhere much. We had to go out of town one time and our lab mix was so upset with us that he wouldn't stay in the dog pen during the day. He actually ate through a chain link fence to get out, he go so freaked out we were going to leave again. So if we went somewhere now I would worry and be worried what he would do when we got back. Maybe now that he is 9 it would be better but I doubt it he is a very sentisive dog.

Yes, the Lab part is probably what that's about. Why do we do this to ourselves?

Animals and the people who have them are very connected. There are stories of animals dying from ailments that they had taken on from their owners. I know a lady who had 3 dogs die of cancer and we she did not get another dog, she came down with cancer. It happens a lot..the connection is that deep. Have you ever noticed that when you're sad, your pet will stay with you no matter what. When I was sick with pneumonia and in bed for a week, my dog would not leave me. I had to make her go outside and have my husband at the time bring her food. Once I was better and out of bed, she was up and out too.

I had to smile at this because last week we went to Vegas and left behind two rabbits and 3 dogs. We made sure the bunnies had enough food and water. The dogs I was going to ask the neighbour to just check up on them as well. All during the trip I kept thinking if they were alright. Now I have 5 kids that I kept busy with in Vegas but on top of that I kept thinking about our pets as well. Sad couldn't really relax.
