Have you ever seen a dreamcatcher?

A dreamcatcher is an amulet used my American Indians to banish nightmares. It is usually placed above the bed, and it allows the good dreams to go through and into the sleeper, while trapping the bad dreams in its web, where they disappear in the morning light. Dreamcatchers are made in a circle, and a web is woven inside the circle. They are usually very decorative, with leathers, beads, and feathers. The feathers help the good dreams go through to the sleeper. Now I want to tell you a story about using a dreamcatcher. When I was working, I had a mental health client who had horrible nightmanres about being murdered that kept him from getting a good night's sleep. I remembered the legend of the dreamcatcher, and I found one for him. I told him the legend, and we placed the dreamcatcher above his bed. For as long as I knew him after that, he did not have any more nightmares. Power of suggestion? Or a legend come true? What do you think? Have you ever used a dreamcatcher? Do you think you might try it?

Hi cristiana...I've never used one, either, but I got one for my grandson. He was having a lot of nightmares, so I told him the story and put one above his bed. Amazingly, he has no more nightmares, so I guess it works for him. Belief can do wonders.

I remember making these as a child. You can find instructions online or get kits to make one. They're beautiful, regardless of how much they help you or not. It’s very therapeutic to sit and do a craft like that, plus it imbues the dreamcatcher with your personal style and energy. I love them. Good discussion.

Hi phaedra...yes, they are wonderful to make. I've seen tiny about 3 or 4 inches across, and very large ones, well over 12 or even 18 inches. Some are very plain, and some are extremely ornate. Do they work? Somehow, I think they do.
