A friend, turned off his cell phone because he did not want to be contacted by anyone, including by his manager. This was done because he was working on her own project. Although he continued to work in a company, but he fumbled for the opportunity to be working on his own project. According to you how the best way, remain in the company while looking for opportunities to work on the project itself, or indeed the focus to pursue its own project?

I would focus on the company work if I am on duty in the company. It is to me not ethical to go to work and do things for your own. Your company pay you for your time and effort spent in the company and thus, it is your responsibility to put the company's work at top priority to get paid. When you do your own stuff, it is like stealing money from the company. If I really want to do my own project, I will only do it during lunch hour or after off duty.
