How I love Magnum..no, not Magnum P.I but Magnum the greatest British rock band ever to have existed. I've seen them about 6 times but not recently and I can't afford it anyway as they tend to play abroad in festivals at this time of year. Amazingly, Bob (God) Catley, the singer is about 60 and the bald buy on the guitar is the driving force behind the band and is called Tony Clarkin. He writes all the songs. Below will give you some background information on them and below that is one of my favourite (relatively recent) videos of theirs called Dragons Are Real..and they are aren't they, let's face it! I danced to this at my wedding do as I love the drums in it. Yes, I was drunk but it was my party so I don't care. Haha! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnum_%28band%29 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrF-iSggUVQ&feature=related

Could you really? Here are a couple of extra vids for you taken from the Vigilante Tour, a tour that I've seen them play in. Do you remember my discussion about that guy taking my friend's seat at the Manchester Apollo? That was at a Magnum gig. The vids below are from London's Hammersmith and I remember the clobber Bob Catley was wearing because I drooled over him at the time even though I was "up in the Gods" lol. I fancied him then and I fancy him now. He's got a gorgeous Brummie accent as well (West Midlands). Enjoy (hopefully)! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tiHCA3FVNU&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2O3bXtD5rY&feature=related

The fact that 11 hours after posting this that there have been no responses sort of backs up the title about more recognition. Now I know the name Magnum, and not because of Tom Selleck or those delicious ice-creams, but because of the band. But that is as far as my knowledge seems to go as I don't recognize any of their songs which is quite strange seeing that I was into rock back when these guys were going ..... first time around.

I've got loads of their albums and seen them loads of times but it's like Anvil (saw a great Storyville documentary about them recently), they've been around for years but in their home country, the US (and UK for Magnum), no-one wants to go and see them. They do in Anvil's case because of the documentary lol. Perhaps Magnum should have a film made about them. They do have a following but mainly in Europe now. When I saw them they played at the Manchester Apollo, Blackburn, all over the place really. Also seen them at rock festivals. I just can't understand it. Perhaps they're too nice!! Even though Bob Catley is 60 now I'd still 'ave him lol! Haha!

And here I was ready to respond that the Kinks were a band that deserved more recognition, but I guess Magnum does deserve a lot more recognition as I've never heard of them. Looks like they were an 80s hair band. I have heard of Anvil. I guess the band that one champions will always be the band that deserves more recognition.

I have to admit to never hearing of them before. They do look pretty old in that You tube clip. I checked out a few of their songs on YouTube and I thought that they were OK, but they have nothing on the likes of Def Leppard or Black Sabbath!
