Have your tastes changed since you were a child?

My tastes are definitibly different from my youth although some changed before and some later. Many of those changes had to do with different ways of cooking the said food. My interest in cooked veggies changed dramatically when I started to cook them "al dente" instead of overcooking them. I hated that greyish green of many cooked veggies. If I cooked them less or steamed them, I could manage to have the vivid greed they hd when raw. There is a list of veggies that I would not eat before and love now. Among them is the cawliflower, brussel sprouts, broccoli, gren beans, chard and spinash, carrots. Did you hate veggies you now love? What made you change your taste? Share!

My tastes have changed very little. I still dislike everything i have always disliked except for turnips. I use to go into my bigmama's house & she'd be cooking them & i thought they smelled awful. I don't remember what made me start liking them because i don't usually change my mind about what i don't like. I love most veggies but as i have told u before can't stand brussel sprouts. I have loved chocolate pie all my life & i still do, darn it.

I got your mail to my mail asking me for my mail. ??? you know my maail, Jo. As for the Jambalaya, I think shrimp and chicken would be ok as sausage taste depends so much on where it is made.

I am sorry about the brussel sprots. I love them but it seems you are not alone in hating them, Jo. As for chocolate pies and the like, I went yesterday to the super because I needed some thread to mend something. You know one thing leads to another. I saw a package of marshmallows and remembered that I had a couple of bananas rotting at home. I also remembered centuries ago, when I was a girl scout and we made bananas, marshmallows and chocolates in alusa. Then to the bonfire. Of course I bought the marshmallows and the chocolate. Bought it bitter just in case.

I have occasionally had brussel sprouts made in such a way that I could tolerate eating them.

I didn´t like onions when I was a kid. Now I can eat it raw or cooked and love it. We had not so many veggies when I was young, so I don´t remember if there were something else I didn´t like. Now I love almost all vegetables that are available here. If they are organically grown, the taste is even better. I would like to live on a place where you can get fresh fruit and vegetables all the year, but maybe that will be possible some time in the future. During summer when we have light nights, the cucumbers grow very fast, it takes only one week from flower to full grown cucumber and they taste great...

I think that we were all picky when we were children. But I also remember that whenI was little there were many veggies that were not served usually. Now I make a wonderful salad with rea zucchini. When I was little it was unthinkable to eat zucchini raw.

I liked a lot of veggies as a kid, and I have to admit that I don't care for canned asparagus any more, fresh or frozen for me now. I do like canned green beans. I like brussel sprouts, never had those as a kid, and broccoli and cauliflower, actually, the only thing I've never had is chard, like eggplant, in fact... I'll eat almost anything so long as it isn't in the maize family...

Years ago canned food was used a lot more than now. Freezers were smaller and there was not so many frozen foods available as there are now. I make some delicious chutnet like dip with eggplans. But I never had them while I was little. It was a food I acquired not that long ago.

Hi, Indeed, my tastes have changed since I was a child. Growing up, it is normal that we start to love things. I used to hate to eat meat when I was young and my mother had to force me to eat it anyway. She never tolerated to waste any food, which is good though. Today, I can eat meat of any kind and I love it. I love to eat chicken, veal, fish, lamb chops, etc. While growing up, we change biologically and so our taste change and the more we eat something the more we will enjoy it. Today, I still have a few things that I dislike. For example, I still hate my mom's pea soup. I just can't eat that. My taste for pea soup has never changed and I will never eat that again. I think it is normal that some taste doesn't change. We have the right to like and dislike food.

My tastes have changed since I was little but you are right. There are some things that never change. When I read your answer I remembered that I hate split pea soup too. I do not buy it, I do not make it. My mom made soup or a sort of puree with it. I did not like it ant way. I will not try it to see it I have changed.

I hated mushrooms when I was child but that has changed now, and I couldn't stand broccoli but I will eat it now though it's not my favourite vegetable. I still don't like courgettes though I hate the texture of the skin and they just have no flavour when cooked.

Have you tried steaming them or taking out the inside, mixing it with eggs and fried onions and baking them with a parmesan cheese topping? They have a good flavour there, I will bet!

yes, my tastes have changed. when I was little I couldn't stand sloppy joe's, now I can eat one if I have to. I used to love corn dogs - hate them now. I hated fish - love it now. back then I loved katchup & hated mustard, now I love mustard & hate katchup. I used to love spicy food, and now I'm more of a mild eater. As a child I liked candy & sweets, now I don't care for them. Still love just about every fruit & vegetable I've ever met - that hasn't changed.

I used to love brussel sprouts! The last few times I've gotten them they've been very bitter. My daughter cooked some for me and they had the nice cabbagy taste the way I remembered them. She said she just "cooked the doodle dust out of them", meaning she cooked them til they were mushy. I cooked the rest of the package myself and got the same bitter taste. I managed to choke them down with lots of hot pepper sauce. It doesn't seem to matter how I cook them they're not good to me any more. I also used to make delicious enchiladas. They were always my oldest son's favorite so now when he visits once a year, I make enchiladas, but they don't taste good to me. He says they taste just the way he remembered. I think our taste does change as we get older, or we get more adventurous and tend to try new things.

I have never liked red meat such a steak when I was a kid and I still don’t! I do enjoy vegetables these days though; as a child I detested anything green and healthy and my eight year old is just the same so I hope she will outgrow her veggie phobia for the sake of her health like I did. Strangely enough I didn’t like chocolate as a kid and nowadays I can’t stay away from the stuff!

When I was a child I couldn't stand the taste of any vegetable. My mom would even mix them on my favorite dish but I would still patiently separate every bit of it,even the smallest slice. But now I couldn't stand eating just meat without any vegetables in it or on the side.I also loved concentrated juices, now i'd rather drink water if i couldn't find real fresh fruit juice.

Yes it has. I have been changing time to time but for better. I have been a person who has been a shy character and never liked to mix with people. But i do it now. I was scared to speak to girls and used to stay far but now i cannot live away from them. tastes have changed, including food habits.

definitely! when i saw my pictures during my pre-teen years, i was like "ewww, i so did not wear those clothes." i don't know why i even let myself be seen in those stuff. hahaha. it's so embarrassing to see my past pictures. but now i'm a bit more confident about the clothes i wear. :D i've truly evolved when it comes to my taste.

My tastes have definitely changed since I was a child too...I never liked silverside now I love it...I didn't like alot of veges as a kid but would eat them out of politeness but now I love alot of veges & always have big servings of veges on my plate for dinner...I don't know what made me change my mind about them I guess it was a matter of me re-trying these foods as an adult & realising that they actually do tast great!
