I couldnt eat carrots a while back. Whenever there were carrots in the food I ate, Id get this weird sensation in my mouth, then its as if I could feel the carrots slowly going down in my stomach, and then Id feel tingling in my face and neck and then Id know something wasnt right. So I stopped eating carrots for at least one year. Then one day, its like I forgot and took a bite of carrots and ......nothing happened. So why is it that some food make us sick and then its ok? Do you have any foods that do this to you? Is there a cure?

Your body is constantly changing and allergys come and go. I don't think anyone really knows what the exact reaction is and why it only happens some times. Maybe it's a combination of things. But you are lucky your body warns you quickly and you can stop what ever you are doing at that time. Many of us have to wait for the rash and by then the whole body is full involved.

Hi MagicalBubbles, I myself have multiple allergies (foods, environment, medicines, etc.) and luckily I don't have asthma. Anyway, talking about foods, I have the same problem before like you did. Sometimes I can eat foods I'm allergic to and sometimes I can't. There is really no cure, at least to my knowledge of allergy because it is an autoimmune disorder. But, you can always modify your diet to avoid the annoying allergic reactions. You just have to listen to your body, be very familiar with the foods that give you allergy (the best is to perform an allergy test to determine your allergens) or, make a list yourself then avoid the foods giving you allergy or find an alternative. The other thing and I think the most important is, be aware of what you are eating. If you know that the food is processed and has a lot of chemicals in it or inorganic, think more than twice before eating it. Sometimes, or maybe most of the time, we think that the food causes allergy but it's really the chemicals with the food that causes such thing to happen. (I did these things for myself and I'm enjoying the benefits) Cheers!:)

Hi Onichboy, Im sorry you have so many allergies, I know what its like. I now know what I can and cannot eat. My family knows about my allergies also and they cook accordingly or I bring my own food. I dont eat any processed food. I make my own from scratch....much safer that way. Thanks for sharing!

Your body is constantly changing, some people are allergic to things their whole life, others develop allergies later on while others grow out of their allergies. I usually have really bad hayfever but this year it has not been that, only taken 5 tablets in a couple of months and last year I had to take 2 a day. Alternatively, they could have been using a chemical on the carrots that you were allergic too and you weren't actually allergic to the carrot itself, they may have now changed the chemicals they were using / stopped using chemicals so now you are not longer allergic to carrots.

In my experience, allergies to foods like that aren't usually allergies but typically just an irritation from maybe a pesticide or something else that could have touched the carrot. Or else it could be that your body had way too many carrots or the vitamin in it that year and just reacted. I'm allergic to shellfish...can't eat shrimp or crab. However, I can eat crab cakes, but only 2 the I become itchy in my throat. I try not to risk it because allergies and our body can change at any time and the allergen could get worse, but I really love crab cakes.

You may have built up a sensitivity to the carrots which has now gone because you haven't had them for a while. Or it could be something used on the carrots - like a chemical spray - which wasn't present in the new carrot you ate. Also, sometimes processing can change the way you react to a food. Often (but not always) a raw or lightly cooked food will have more impact than one that is well cooked or heavily processed.

Im not sure what it was exactly with the carrots but now it seems ok and im not complaining as I love carrots. Im sure we have reactions to food sometimes because of all the chemicals used. Thanks.

You're right, I dont think theres a cure for allergies. You can only make the symptoms go away but not the allergy. Thanks for replying.....I see you're new here, welcome to Mylot!!

Our body changes constantly. I have this experience, I used to accept penicillin when I was a child, but after I entered middle school, I couldn't passed the skin test for even once! I can no longer use this cheap and effective medicine. Another possible reason is it was not the carrot itself. You might eat some other food or touch something which reacted with some components in carrots.

Im sorry you're now allergic to penicillin, my husband is allergic to it also. As for the carrots.....Im sure it was the carrots as I did a few tests. Id eat carrots alone and get that reaction right away. I stopped trying because the more I tried, the worst it got. Thanks for sharing.
