A star-studded House of Representatives

The House of Representatives opened its doors in a star-studded fashion. We have Manny Pacquiao, Lucy Torres-Gomez, Lani Mercado, Imelda Marcos to name a few recently elected representatives. The outpour of celebrities entering politics just proves how popularity factors in a candidate's success. But do they translate to quality public service? Kindly share your views mylotters. People voted for them = People like them, right? I think its not a matter of how much you know when talking about politics. I believe its about how much the people approve you as you are the one they see as their guidance. Majority wins most of the time.

that's the problem too because they like them because they're celebrities and popular and not because of their qualifications.

Hello astreadido,
Manny Pacman knows rarely how to make laws, he should have started as mayor since he needs experience in executing laws. i don't know about Lucy Torres, what's her track record as a Legislature.for Imelda marcos? people sure forget the greatest evil that convince Ferdinand Marcos to declare Martial Law.i have heard from people saying if Imelda wasn't interfering with his hubby regards to his job, none of that would have happened.
as for public service we shouldn't judge since they're still a new, just like PNOY@astreadido (608)

I agree about not judging the newly instated representatives. Time and their constituents will be the judge of that. There are/were celebrity-politicians who became successful public servants but there are also those who don't. Just like in any traditional politics.

Same old, same old.. why am I not surprised. This is what you get when 90% of your countrymen resorts to popularity more than intelligence. I agree with the above post. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the circus.
