Clothesline or dryer?

We used to dry our clothes under the sun but now we have a dryer so we don't use clothesline anymore. It is very convenient but I think in a desert climate like here in Arizona it usually sunny, and even if its not it is still hot outside it would be very practical to make use of the sun. Most people don't use clothesline anymore because it is ugly and time consuming where in a dryer you just put the clothes in, set it and wait for it to be done.

yeah! I agree! dryers on washing machines don't really last that long. We had one before and it just took us three to four uses before it was broke. I don't know if it's just for certain brands. What do you think?

I think in the Philippines, dryers do not last as long as here in America because the ones from there, I would say has a lower quality and breaks easily whatever brand they may be. Even the washing machines don't last as long because it is usually manual it is hard to be sure if you put enough water in it or too much clothes. I used to live there when I was a kid so I do know. The american dryers and washers are of higher quality and capacity. I can say that because they are automatic. For our washer, you just add the detergent and fabric softener, put it to the setting that are appropriate and let it do its thing. Same thing goes for the dryer, you just set it up, pop the wet clothes in, wait for it to be done or do something else.

well we used uhmm forgotten if it was ge or american home. and the bad thing about bad appliances is you tend to stay away from them for a while because of bad experience with it. we have also an experience with an electric stove.

I don't even own a drier and I would never ever use one. They use up far too much energy and are not at all economical, and because of the amoount of energy they consume they are pretty bad on the environment. I also don't understand why you are not using your cloths line or how a drier is more convenient when it is costing you money that would be better off in your pocket than in the big wallets of your energy company.

Here in America, almost every household has one but some do use clothesline. The reason why I said it is convenient is because people here have the buying power and here in Arizona it is really hot outside when it is summer like right now. We also experience dust storms. Here, they have what is called the Home Owners Association (HOA)which controls what you can put in your neighborhood. Hanging clothesline outside is prohibited in many communities here. I do understand that you save money through the use of clothesline but here people can just pay it off. Using the dryer is very convenient if you do not have a big space at your backyard. Most houses do not have backyards. I also think that they don't like seeing undies hanging out. It is very convenient for American living because it is easy to operate and they don't break down so easily, and low maintenance. Maybe it is just not convenient for other countries like yours. I think it has something to do with the economic status of a country too because If you can't afford the electric bill then it is more convenient to do it old school.

Clothesline inside the house - Drying up the hanged clothes
It is mostly sunny in our place so we always hang our clothes in clothesline even after using the dryer. The dryer we mostly use here does not totally dries up the clothes but only squeezes out large percentage of water from the clothes so that it will come out semi-dry but still needs some exposure to the sun become being completely dried. Nowadays the weather is really rainy so I can't expect the sun to shine. Hence after using the dryer I hang my clothes inside the house to enable enough time for drying.

I have a dryer, because the humidity where I live is very high, so it would take forever for the clothes to dry otherwise. But sometimes I use a clothesline too, if it is very sunny and so on.

I prefer to dry my clothes naturally and even we have a dryer I don't use coz I don't like my clothes shrunk and get old and fade quickly.Even clothesline is time consuming it's worth the effort hanging clothes outside, you can save a little of your electricity bill and kill a little bit of bacteria from your clothes from the heat of the sun.

Though technology introduced the use of dryers for clothes, I still prefer using clothesline because clothes dry more effectively and quickly. Also, I believe that the sun's heat kills off the bacteria on the clothes.

I prefer to dry them naturally, under the sun, they smell fresh like this, they have that smell, of fresh air, combined with the smell of the washing powder, and balm. But in my country is not always summer, or hot weather, so, when is cold outside, i dry them in the dryer.
