Oh good grief! Yet another disaster associated with me.

Well, not me, specifically, but my birthday. I'm watching a History Channel special about the dust bowl in the midwest US.
On April 14th in 1935, a huge black dust storm hit and engulfed everything in it's path. It was known as "Black Sunday".
My birthday is April 14th. Abraham Lincoln was shot in the head on April 14th in 1865. The Titanic hit the iceburg on April 14th in 1912.
Now I'm SURE that I was born on a date associated with several major disasters. I thought it was just the two, Lincoln and the Titanic. I wonder how many other disasters happened on April 14th? I'm not sure I want to know. Does that mean that I'm a disaster, too?

This year's earthquake in Haiti happened on my birthday! Other than that, nope...

Well, I know I'll never forget your birthday now. I'm sure we'll hear about the earthquake on it's anniversary and maybe even for years to come.
I might just look this up one of these days. It would be kinda interesting, although I think I'd rather have universally GREAT things happening on the same day I was born.

A few actors I like were born on March 1st, but as for events, I had to look them up. Some notable ones for my birthday (March 1st), were Charles Lindbergh's son is kidnaped. We all know how that turned out. Seven people are indicted in the Watergate scandal, the Bikini Atoll nuclear disaster happens, which results in horrendoue radioactive contamination, but also leaves us with a disaster bearing a funny name - Bikini Atoll? Oh hey! It says in 1790 the first U.S. census was taken, March 1st of that year. That was officially the first year we all got annoyed.

Oh, man! You win for the worst disaster... the Census. 
I can tell you of another thing that happened on March 1st, although it wasn't a disaster, just a big surprise. In 1970, our dog gave birth to six puppies, all in 4-hour period during which my sister's birthday party was taking place. Her birthday was March 2nd but we were having the party on March 1st. Our dog began giving birth as we sung Happy Birthday to my sister and she was blowing out the candles on her cake. The party ended a few minutes after the dog had her last pup. Talk about an attention-stealer!

Hi Gabs! I had no choice about learning of the Titanic and Lincoln disasters but I learned of the other one by reading. I have to stop doing that! I sure don't want to learn of any others!
I know of a few people who have been born the same day as I (different years, though). I've met two people with the same birthday. Loretta Lynn, an old but very famous country music singer was born on April 14th. So was, umm, can't remember his name, something Garrett... oh! Brad Garrett, an actor here in the States was also born on that day. So, not all bad things happened on that day. I'll start thinking of myself as a good thing. 
Of course, I do have that surgery coming up. Sigh!

Space shuttle Columbia blew up on April 12, 1981. In 1936 there was a Moose River mine disaster on that date.
Every day has disasters associated with it. The fact that you happened to be born on that day doesn't mean anything. Any day of the year, you'll find multiple disaster anniversaries! Your birth on that day just means that something good finally happened.

That's very true, dragon. I hadn't thought of it that way, before. Mine is associated with those two VERY well known disasters which is why it has stuck in my head.
I remember that space shuttle disaster. I was quite pregnant with my oldest son and remember watching the launch live that day and being totally horrified when it exploded. I sat right down and cried my eyes out! (Those darned pregnancy hormones made me soooo emotional!) Of course, I had no idea it was your birthday way back then.

hahaha. it doesn't really mean you're a disaster. you can be the opposite :D if you try :D about my birthday, i haven't heard of any disasters associated with it. all i know is that it's the same day as the feast of st. augustine and the birthday of jack black. :D

don't think that your a disaster too.. each of us are unique and designed to live differently according to how you manage it. so don't think that you'll end up like them because you're one of a kind... be happy.. :)

Thank you, newbuzinez. I'm going to start thinking that I'm the positive factor balancing out the negative factors associated with this date.
Of course, I AM facing my 29th surgery in just two weeks. My whole life hasn't been a disaster but it sure has had it's problems.

mental, you are so funny being stressed by those gigantic tragedies. April 14th is a good day as any actually. Think about it this way. You are the exception to the rule. You are the one shining blessing for that doomsday!
