I live in the country and we have a very large backyard, a nice pool and plenty of space to have parties or just sit and enjoy. The problem is that we cant stay outdoors because there are so many mosquitoes that you get eaten alive. We havent used our pool yet, even thought we've had a heat wave for the past 3 weeks. Im at my wits end. We have long winters and of course you can go outside but not sit there and have a drink Id like to have my family over so we can have a BBQ and swim and enjoy the nice weather but I just cant. I thought of building some kind of "dome" over my pool but thats going to be way too costly. I have those gazebo things but every time you open the door, then you get tons of mosquitoes in and then you're stuck in with them. Ive sprayed myself with just about any product, but even if they dont bite me, they are still flying all around and its SO annoying. Does anyone have any idea what can be done?

There are plants that drive mosquitoes away. I forget what they are called, but you can asked at your local nursery. When you buy them, keep them in pots so you can take them indoors for the winter. They do work. Just keep a bunch of them around where the party is and the bugs go away. I live in Fl. and we have bugs almost year round. Good luck. Shalom~Adoniah

They do work, but they have to be mature plants. The little bitty ones have to grow a season. You could augment whatever you have been doing with that Yard Guard spray. That stuff keeps them away for a few hours and doesn't smell bad like OFF. Shalom~Adoniah

Mosquitoes are a pain in the butt! lol My best advice is going to sound silly, but it works!! Fabric Softner sheets! Put them in your shoes (tucked around your sock) or in your hat, etc. They will keep them away!!! If you don't want to do that then my best advice is OFF spray or citronella candles. Oh and don't wear anything smelly (perfume, strong deodorant, etc) that will definitely attract them. GOOD LUCK!

No solid advice here. But there's this electrocuting lamp that some people use here? Mosquitoes are attracted by the light and when they get into it, they get some dose of electrical shock. Maybe eradicating their breeding places might do some good. A landscape architect placed soap chips in areas that most likely collect moisture like empty jars, or bromelaine-type of plants. It also helps to have a pond full of fishes. Not just a pond! As for your pool. My uncle has this net that he drapes over the pool. Do mosquitoes even breed into pool waters? If they do then perhaps you can try this one out.

Mosquitoes like to thrive in wet and dark places, and dirty surroundings, too. Try cleaning up your place first. Do the basics like emptying bottles, jars and other containers filled with water (breeding grounds for mosquitoes), turn them upside down. Replace water from your vases at least once a week to eliminate eggs.Burn or throw away unneeded stuff from your yard.Avoid plants that attract mosquitoes instead plant those that are mosquito repelant like citronela, scented geraniums, etc.If it is possible to make a bonfire, then do so twice every week.Burn with it drien leaves of natural plants that repel mosquitoes. I hope these can help...

Hi! Try Citronella products. Like Citronella candles, essential oils and linen sprays. Mosquitoes hate them! Place them all over your house and even outside and spray some on you too. Let me know if it works.

I have trouble with mosquitoes too, I mean, I come from the land of a thousand lakes so what can you expect? Buy a friend of mine has had luck with these chemical things you put around the perimeter of your yard and they greatly reduce the skeeter population. I'm not sure what they're called, sorry. Good luck!
