I was a huge anime fan throughout my pre-teenhood, but I've kind of drifted from it in the past couple of years. I think I feel like getting geeky and startiing watching a new series, but since I've been out of the anime loop for a while I don't know what to watch. :o I enjoyed Nana and Paradise Kiss very much, as well as Honey and Clover and FLCL. I really like werid artsy styles of drawing, but I've got little interest in the more action-like series (e.g. Naruto, Bleach, Samurai Champloo). What's a newer anime series you enjoy?

I strongly recommend Maid Sama, it's really funny and really sweet. The heroine here is a bit boyish and really hates guys but this guy (lead) got a sudden interest on her because she was tough at school (student council President) but accidentally seen here at a cafe bar where she was a part-timer wearing a very cute girly-girly maid costume. Now she's having this problem because it seems that she and the guy is beginning to get closer and closer each day and she doesn't know how to handle the fact that she might have fallen in love with him. ^.^ hope you like the summary... just check it out. it just lunched this year...

Kaichou wa maid sama! I watched the anime version of this too. And it really got me into the story from the first episode. I'm considering reading the manga soon when I have the time. Highly recommended!!

I sympathise with your nerdiness, I like anime too. I would reccomend either Eureka Seven if you just skim the first 9 episodes because the ending really makes up for it or mabey romeo x juliet if you're feeling uber romantic. And it's actually better than it sounds. But Chrno Crusade, Mai Hime, Ouran High School Host Club and Wolfs Rain all sound like you might like them. Good luck!

Thanks for the response. ^o^ I've watched some of Eureka seven in the past; I wasn't too crazy about it, though. And I forgot to mention Ouran Host Club- I LOVE it! I finished watching a season of it already, lol. I'll check out the other you mentioned.

Hallo olisaur! I see you have a lot of recommendations from the one above already so I'm just gonna state this : Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge is amazingly funny! It's worth your while and they also made a very sucesfull live action after this series. Ayashi no Ceres is one of my favorites though I hated the ending (the las 5 seconds of the anime to be exact :))) Fushigi Yuugi...now this is a absolute classic that has everything in it. But if you want my advice, stay away from the OVA's..it just turns the whole thing into one giant soap-opera of the worse kind. Ginban Kaleidoskope - it's a very very beautiful and moving love story with lots of funny moments. I love this anime! My own recommendations would be : Hana yori dango the anime (and live action if you like the type). It's a bit older, from the 90's but it has a good storyline and it's very funny. Zero no tsukaima (also called The Familiar of Zero) - it reminded me a lot of Tora Dora :) It's very funny and cute! And also...Gravitation :) I know..it's a shounen-ai series, but it has nothing horrid in it. Besides, the characters are great, the story-line is very interesting , the graphics of the series and the chibis are incredibly cute and funny and, as a whole it's a very entertaining and amusing experience. I hope you'll have the courage to try it . If you do so, let me know what you think about it. Happy myloting!

Comedy animes I wold like to recommend: Lucky Star - It's about the girl named Konata who's an avid anime fan. Azumanga Daioh - about six girls and their funny adventures of their High School life.

I, unfortunately, haven't been up-to-date with the anime line up lately because of RL responsibilities so I haven't been able to watch this year's Spring lineup, nor last year's Winter lineup. I do try to follow (when I can) Ookiku Furikabutte but that's not a shoujo anime. More over, it's a sports series (baseball) and therefore might not appeal to everyone. I did have a blast watching [b]Skip Beat![/i] last... last year, I think? Winter lineup of 2008, maybe? Anyway, it's about a girl who, after being dumped, decided to get even on the b-stard who cruelly dumped her by entering show business so she could be more famous and popular than him and humiliate him after. I also recommend Kimi ni Todoke which was part of last Spring's lineup, if I'm not mistaken. It's a very good story about Sawako who is exceptionally bad at social etiquette, and her having long dark hair and a pale complexion has made people call her "Sadako" (after The Ring's Sadako) instead. It's sweet without cloying and it's one of those feel good anime that is guaranteed to make you smile.

I love Fruits Basket. Aright, that's not a new series, but if you haven't seen it, you should start it. Or read the manga, that's even better. If you liked H&C and Nana you might like Bokura ga ita as well. Oh, and if you like sentimental series then I recommend Air TV or Air the movie too.
