It's not a final fantasy game though but Kingdom hearts, since I grew up with Disney and all. If I had to choose a FF game it has to be crisis core! That game is focusing on binding the FF7 story together and does it in a great fashion!

Final Fantasy Crisis Core.. The part When Angeal, Sephirot and Genesis Battle Scene in the combat simulator.. But Final Fantasy 8 still owns for the long story line..
