If untreated high blood pressure can weaken and damage your arteries. High blood can also cause death if untreated. The sad part about it is some people do not even know they have the disease. How often do you have your blood pressure checked?

Hi agrant10, when I visit doctor he usually would check my blood pressure after asking some question related to my sickness. If I'm not mistaken the last time I having such check was about half a year ago. I was told that my blood pressure was normal. As what I know the blood pressure of certain people would go up when having it checked in the clinic. Actually their blood pressure is not that high. This is what so-called white coat scare. White coat refers to the doctor, as a doctor is always in his white coat when on duty normally. my husband is the same type of person that would be nervous when his blood pressure is examined in the clinic. He had purchased a digital blood pressure measure device later. He is in the normal level when the test is done at home. We have our own blood pressure tested very often like weekly since then Happy posting

At the moment we don't use it that frequently like the time when it's newly bought. We check our blood pressure only when feeling unwell like coughing, running nose, fewer, etc. It's nice to check it ourselves before visiting the doctor. At least my husband doesn't feel panic if the pressure measured there is rather higher Thanks for the sharing agrant10

I hear alot of people say they have the machine. Make it a habit to check as often as you can. Thank AntiqueLady

It can damage your heart and make it bigger, too. I'm on blood pressure meds right now.

I'm glad you take the time to do it. That is great at home or work it does not matter as long as you are aware. Thanks for taking the time to respond to this discussion.

I should mention that my BP is sometimes raised because of my anxiety issues. thats what the doctor told me when It was seen to be a little higher than it should be. Anyway, if its controlled with medication, it shouldnt be much of a problem :)

Yes, I agree especially if the medication is taken as prescribed. I think that everyone should be checked often. It is the ones who do not know they have it, that is the scary part. Thanks for taking the time to respond to this discussion. Happy Mylotting.

There are many, many complications that can arise from having chronic hypertension...Luckily for me, I am young! I have had it checked a few times and only once was it a little raised. If you are over a certain age or have a heart problem or diabetes etc..its very important to get regular BP checks.

Yes, I have been fortunate that I do not have it, but I do have family members who are younger than me and they suffer from it. I really can not stress your statement enough to get regular BP checks. It is so important.

There are lot more complications of blood pressure and many still being researched.I do check mine like once in a year.Being too young i don think i have to worry about it at this age.But its very good to check it quite often in the world where everything is almost contaminated and we never know what r the new disease yet to come:):)
