What about the current Big 3 of the free agent market? Shaq, AI, and T-Mac

Ten years earlier, Shaquille ONeal, Allen Iverson, and Tracy McGrady would have commanded the maximum salaries and could have joined to form the Superfriends like the crew (Lebron James, Chris Bosh, and Dwyane Wade) in Miami this summer. In the summer of 2010, these same men are former superstars who are not the prizes of free agency and not entitled to any preferential treatment. Have they burned so many bridges that good teams won't touch them in fear of them becoming publicity hounds and cancers within the locker room? Can they settle for a minor role off the bench and ride to a title with any team? What do you think?

Of the three I think Allen Iverson and Tracy McGrady have the most to offer a team. I think Shaq is basically done and will tarnish his Legacy if he goes on much longer. If AI can start on a team then we will see he still has it. With McGrady I feel that if he is healthy then we will see a very capable player.

For Iverson and McGrady, I believe that they would want to chase a contender but most contenders have featured players and are looking for specialist/role players. What roles would Iverson and McGrady play on a contender? For example, there has been a lot of chatter about McGrady and the Bulls. Derrick Rose would dominate the ball for the majority of the game. McGrady's style of play in the past include dominating the ball on each possession and stay in a half court set offense versus a transition, pick and roll type offense which may fit Rose's style better.

If they really mean to win the championship I believe someone should take a minor role. I can still remember the All-Star team of LA that got beaten by the Pistons. It does not mean that when your team looks good on paper that they would perform as expected. As for burning down bridges, I believe that what "The King" did was wrong, he could have been a little bit more subtle. Although, I also think that the Cavs owner overreacted since the player is a free agent and he has the right to make a decision on his own. I think teams will still touch on these players even if they might be cancer in the locker room (granted they still perform well in the court). After all, it's all about the championship, isn't it?

Shaq isn't welcome in LA or Miami. When Shaq called Chris Bosh the "Rupaul of Big Men", it can affect a man's ego. When Shaq asked Kobe how his butt tastes, again it can affect a man's ego. I think Boston picked up an old man named ONeal this summer although his name was Jermaine. Although LA, Boston, and Miami aren't the only teams to challenge for the ring, his current option is to serve as the backup center for Atlanta for about $2 million bucks. Diesel still thinks he's got one more dominant year in him and want mid level exception (roughly $5.8 million). Oh yeah, Shaq isn't ready to be humble just yet.
