A layoff is coming...

At first I was told I would have to reduce my staff by half...this means 1 supervisor and 8 agents would be let go. Now I am finding out it might go further, that it might even mean my job as Operations Manager! I am upset and worried as I am a single mom of two and Manager level jobs are hard to come by. Have you survived a layoff? How did you manage? What tips can you offer? Thanks to all!

I can very well understand your fear. It's always been hard to think what will happen in the future when lay off is hovering in the distance. It is a bit dreadful to imagined especially in your case that you are a single mom and jobs nowadays is hard to come by. It happen to me once and because I am still single so it's not really bad. But i wish you wont be lay off with your job because you have kids to support and I am a nit sad for you and all those people who are in the process of losing their jobs the next days. There no tips I can give you but I just want you to be strong everything will pass. You can make it.

Thank you so much. It is very hard for me. I made it through the first of the layoffs but I had to layoff more than half my staff. I found another one a different job within my company today. I have been lucky that I can place them so they are not laid off. When it comes to me, however, I don't think I will be so lucky. But - I am trying to keep the faith and hope for the best - for now.

I hope you survived the layoff and it missed you. I don't work, I stay home with my disabled son. My husband works and when he gets laid off, it really hurts. I try to stay a little ahead of the bills, just in case, but that doesn't always happen.

I hope your husband keeps his job. I know how hard it is to make ends meet when you are the only breadwinner.

Hello TrvlArrngr. At the end of each school year, our school will dismiss some so called unqualified teachers based on the questionaire by the students and their working performance during the whole year. It is a difficult time for all the teachers. If those to be dimissed could not predict any sense of the unemployment, then they would have to start to look for a job during the summer vacation, which is two months long. Therefore we have to work hard and effectively and have a good relationshipe with the students based on our effective and good teaching. Have a good time.

It must be hard to remain focused when you do not know if a layoff is coming each year. I know it makes me nervous and frustrated.
