Hi! I searched and I found that this topic was last posted 3 years ago. So I would like to revive it. Has anyone of you from the Philippines ever taken the SPEAK Test required by the Canadian Embassy for people applying to become live-in caregivers to Canada? If yes, could you share your experiences regarding the test? Like was it hard and what questions were asked? You see my sister is supposed to take the test in August and she's kinda scared about it. Thanks so much for your help!

Thanks so much for your comment katkat. Yes she is scheduled on aug2. But since that is next week already, I don't know if she'll have time to review with the group. Anyway, I'll forward the link to my sister so she can check it out. Maybe there's still time. Thanks again!

I think there would be only six people per review for three consecutive days. All the possible question in the speak test will be tackle I think.

My sister is done with the SPEAK Test already. She did not attend any more review classes because there were no more available slots. Plus that's additional expense. Let me just recount what happened to her so that if anyone searches for a discussion about the SPEAK Test, they can find something useful here. Here's what happens in the test: Make sure you have everything you need before taking the test. She said some didn't have a photocopy of their IDs so they still had to leave the center to get that. I think photocopying was available outside the property. There will be 10 of your who will be taking the test at the same time in the testing room. It's a call center type of setting where you will have your own station with a headset with mic and a computer screen in front of you with a camera. The camera will record your test. They will transfer your recording to a cd. That cd will be submitted to the embassy where it will be graded. You will get 2 grades: one for English Proficiency and one for your knowledge in caregiving. You have to pass both. The test consists of 7 questions. You will be timed 1 min and 30 seconds for each question. You will hear the question and also read it from the computer screen. First 2 questions are generic questions. They will let you get used to hearing and answering. The last 5 questions are about anything under the caregiving sun. So you have to review ALL you have learned in caregiving. I've forgotten what those questions were, I'm sorry. But she said that it's easy as long as you reviewed. You're not allowed to bring anything in the testing room. You will be provided some papers and a pencil if you want to organize your answers before verbalizing it. It's a good idea to do that. Last tip: If you don't know the answer to the question, try to answer it the best way you can. If by chance you answered correctly, then good. If your answer is wrong, then at least you'll still get a grade for your English proficiency. Instead of just sitting there and saying nothing. Hope this helps to future test takers! I hope my sister passes, too!
