Having a severe snoring problem can wreak havoc on a relationship, but since you both snoring the scales are balanced. On the serious side, you really should get a diagnosis from your doctor because you may have what is called in the medical field, sleep apnea, which is a serious restriction of air while you are sleeping. Maybe you can do some research on snoring or sleep apnea to get a better understanding about this condition. Most times your doctor will have you go into a sleep disorder clinic and spent the night where your sleep pattern will be recorded. You are connected to different machines that will read you results. If you are diagnosed with sleep apnea, you will probably be given a machine, ugly, that you will be asked to wear when you go to bed. This machine comes with a mask that fits over your nose, and it eliminates your snoring problem.

I think you should at least get it checked out with a doctor to make sure you don't have it. The reason you don't forget to breathe when you are on your stomach is because the soft tissue that usually block your airway is hanging in the opposite direction from your throat, so it can't block it. I can't sleep on my stomach, but that is a good thing that you can.

Hi nobbsy, Snoring can be maddening sometime. Few years back I happened to delegate myself into a conference and it was three days programme. I was to share a room with other two guys. The first night, after dinner was over and chatting too we though better hit the bed now. So to say I am not so comfortable when in a new a bed. Though other two fell asleep soon I was still awake and soon began the roar, if one stopped the other started like they are in a fray as who could make the louder voice. Believe me I hardly had two hours sleep that night. Ir was so loud and irritating that all the while my concentration would fall on their snores. This happens mainly when you get more body weight and secondly if you have some nasal problem. Over eating also could lead to developing a snoring habit(?)

Although there are many home remedies to try to help snoring, there are certain situations when seeing a doctor is the best option. The National Sleep Foundation recommends seeing a doctor when snorers are suffering from excessive daytime sleepiness, morning headaches, recent weight gain, not feeling rested in the morning, feeling confused when awakening at night, observing pauses in breathing while asleep or a change in the ability to concentrate. Snorers should also consult a doctor if they are snoring every night or disturbing the sleep of others. I have two brothers with the same problem and one has to sleep with a breathing machine. I don't want to scare you but this is not something to take lately. Try a few more home remedies and if that doesn't help please call your doctor. Good Luck :~)
