Practically everyone knows that Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly will not be reprising their roles in the 4th installment of this series. However, new characters played by Penelope Cruz and Ian McShane will be joining Captain Jack Sparrow and Barbossa in the new adventure for the Fountain of Youth.
Recently, I saw a poll asking people if the movie will bomb because Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly won't be in it. In my opinion, I think most people took notice of the movie because of Depp though I know Bloom had a lot of fans following his success in the Lord of the Rings and Troy. And of course Knightly has her own following as well. But I think Depp's following is big enough to keep the Pirates from bombing.
What do you think? Will Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly's absence hurt the movie? Will it affect you from going to see the movie?

I think it has an effect, might just be a bit, Because the fans likes the chemistry of this 3, Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann and Captain Jack Sparrow. But if the movie will highlight each and every character for another good series like the Fast and the Furious where in not all the main cast are in the next sequel it is fine, and The replacements? I think they're fine, its just in the roles and the story why Turner and Swann are gone.

I really liked the characters played by Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly, particularly in the first movie, which was my favourite, but I think their story has been pretty much exhausted. I just hope this new movie will have the same high quality as the first movies. If it does, this new cast could give a breath of fresh wind. All I can do is hope for the best.

Pitates will not be the same without Orlando and Keira. Their magic missing from pirates will be sadly missed. The chemistery between these characters was a huge part of pirates. I will still watch the new installment of the pirates saga. yet it will not be the same.@vjenkins86 (1478)

It probably won't be the same without that love story, I'll agree with that. Hopefully, though, a new love story/relationship will bring another kind of chemistry to this installment.

I think you are right that most people who see these movies do it because of Johnny Depp, so I think it will be okay, but it depends on how good Penelope and Ian will be as well. If they bomb, the movie might too.

That's true. I think Penelope will do well in her role, but who knows. Crossing fingers that she and Ian don't bring down the cast.

I also don't think that the absence of Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley. I mean people really noticed Johnny Depp. Well yeah of course both Bloom and Knightley have a lot followers but I think they're a smaller lot compared to those who loved the pirates series because Depp and they're not even his fans. I think what really made the movie is Depp's outstanding acting versatility and prowess.

I'm going to have to agree with you. I mean, EVERYONE knows Jack Sparrow. Many remember Will Turner and Elizabeth Swan, but it's Jack Sparrow that everyone recognizes and wants to emulate. And that's because of what Depp brought to the role.

Thanks, this is the first time I heard of this news. I will still watch PotC even without Bloom and Knightly in it. I watched the first 3 movies because of the adventure element in it and the special effects. Maybe it's going to be another trilogy. The first 3 movies with Bloom/Knightly is a trilogy, and this new movie is not the 4th part, but the beginning of another trilogy. I hope the movie is as good as the first 3 ones, if not better.
Here is a video by Johnny Depp about the new movie. I don't think it's about the fountain of youth (he basically said so in the teaser).

Your welcome. That could be an interesting take on it, two sets of triologies. Kind of like how Star Wars is. Hm.
