Owning a ptc site...is it more "trouble" than what it's worth?

I am thinking of following in a couple of my friends/mylotters footsteps & looking into buying a fairly cheap & running ptc site...I am worried that if I do this, it will take up way too much of my time & won't bring in much of a profit after expenses like paying members & hosting fees... Have you ever owned a ptc site? Do you think they take up too much time? Do you think they bring in a little bit of a profit while owning them or only when you sell? Please tell me your thoughts on the topic.
