Uplifts and Knickers

Sometime ago, feeling fat, slightly suicidal and armed with my plastic friend ,I took off to buy some bras. My plumpish friend Jame had bought a dress that emphasized every spare pound of flesh and she was looking frantically for some bras. She eventually found a boutique and the overweight, motherly assistant appreciated the size of her problem and came up with a garment that possibly was designed for a fracture unit. Jane said that it was worth every dollar though as she looked and felt wonderful in her new dress. So I wanted a few bras like these that had set her back many dollars but had lifted her spiritually and otherwise. I then galloped off to the said boutique to look for the overweight, motherly assistant but she was not there. Up slithered a bra-less young lady obviously anorexic. Painfully thin. I whispered my size and she giggled then languidly raise her hand and waved vaguely behind her. She then suggested that I rummage at the back of the shop as just possibly there may be some bras in green and brown in my size. There was. I took neither. I then (all by myself)found a white and a black that fitted. Flushed with this success I then thought of knickers. I began to look for some cheap and cheerful looking knickers, something silky and not old ladyish that would match the expensive bras. This is where I went wrong. Because when you use underwear to lift a depression then you should always start at the bottom. I'd have looked better in Jane's corset. When I looked at myself in the mirror at home, wearing the bra and the jockeys, I decided that it was decidedly likely that I would never be happy again. Here too I was wrong. I rang some good friends and bored them stupid about life in general and knickers in particular and when I woke the next morning I was better. My family were all relieved. I got rid of the jockeys. Now all I have to do is to buy some knickers. So if you have reached this far reading this very silly post, then tell me, do you have difficulty in buying underwear?

Nope, I wear bikini underwear. If I need the waistline to look slenderer underneath something, I also wear some kind of a shaper. Mostly I avoid the problem by buying garments that don't require a shaper to begin with. Which are really hard to find these days. Clearly the fashion designers don't appreciate the problem...

Well I ended up with some from M&S in the U.K. and ye old faithful form the US. Namely Haynes (Hanes?). I don't wear bikini though. Because of my stomach. But I really don't know why I got my knickers in a twist over this as no one sees them- except maybe the daughter. But then I may get run over and be taken to hospital ....... Whispers softly: What's a shaper?

Each shop I seem to go to seem to measure me and give me a different size or if I try one on with size a shop has told me it never seems to fit. Yes I have lots of trouble buying underwear!

I hate being measured and then trying on and it does not fit. We do not have a large selection out here but I did by two pairs when I was in the U.K. last month

I think that once you find a brand that fits you then stick with it. Not much selection on the Island.

Hmm this is going to be a little different maybe then what you're looking for, but this popped into my mind. I have maybe one, maybe two pairs of underwear that work just perfectly with the type of pads I like to use when it's the monthly ritual of roses. The problem is, I have enough underwear to last for awhile so no need to buy more underwear, especially with it being an added silly expense. I guess the only problem is, I have too many of the wrong kind of underwear.

Actually I keep all well worn underwear and when I travel then I use one and throw it away after use. I do not have to worry about 'ritual of roses' anymore - thank God! I agree it is best to see up what you have. Bras last longer than knickers so when you buy knickers choose them to match your existing bras. Blessings and did you get my photo of the blue plates?

I still need to check my email, so not yet but I am sure I received it. When buying bras I buy white or black, I had bought other colors in the past but then I found I had mroe of the colored ones then white, which doesn't do when you're wearing a white shirt, or have to for work!

I have never thought u to be a drama queen. I do think of a few that are but u aren't one of them in my opinion. Thanks for your group & their prayers. preacher is coming along but it's very, very slow. My neighbor is going down pretty quick as far as weight & things like that. He did mow the yard this week & that surprised us all. He doesn't seem as depressed as he did after his heart surgery a couple of years ago. Kathy had a terrible time w/him then. Have heard no more about the young man that needs the tranplant. i just hope & pray he gets it soon. I haven't been able to get him off my mind. He looked so bad. have a good one. hugs.

As I am a rather fluffy puff of flesh myself. I have trouble buying under clothes too. I have found that a shop I must travel to for buying anything has really nice things for a plump lady. They are stylish and so pretty and help to make me feel pretty. They have beautiful bras and panties that match and come in an array of styles just for your liking. The name of the store is Cato's. They have women fashions, most of them being for smaller people although they do have a wide assortment of things for larger ladies. Plus they have the undies for us that will help us feel like a lady and beautiful. They have sales most times on their things which gives me an extra boost when I come out saving a load of money and still getting even more of the things I went for.

wow - I now know that I have to find this store when next I go to the US. I too like to feel pretty - even though I am widowed and the price is really a factor for me too

What a rude sales lady.. such a shame you couldn't find the one your friend had found! I don't really shop for underwear often, and when I do I'm cheap! For undies I buy Hanes briefs.. yep, granny panties, lol! I am slightly pickier about my bras though, I need good support. I always wear underwire ones, always have liked them better.. and I want a bra that is rounded. A few times I just grabbed a bra in my size without trying it on first and I get home and put it on and it lookes like that Madonna style.. all pointy. I mean really.. why even make those bras? Boobs are round, not pointy!! I don't think I've ever spent more than $10 on a bra, I try to find them on the Walmart clearance racks, lol.

Hanes is good - I buy Hanes too but not the smaller ones! I also need a good support but it must be pretty for me to feel good. Oh, I have never worn the pointy thingsbut I need a little uplift too but not hoisting them around my neck!!

Hi cynthiann! It's funny that you brought this particular topic up now! My girlfriend who lives across the street from me called me tonight to tell me to turn on the tv to watch a certain program because they were showing women who were getting a "makeover"! They were women who need some sort of "undergarment" to enhance, hide or whatever! She wanted me to see the "padded rear end" model! I couldn't believe she went there! I can't help it if I don't have a butt, it runs in the family! I got a huge chest 38DD and a flat butt and big waist and stomach (at least since I got older)! I told her I am not about to wear fake padding in my rear end! So, what do you think of this?

I love the way you write and I so enjoy your posts! I was envisioning your experience and I was laughing quite a bit! I hate buying underwear because it entails looking at my almost naked body in an all too revealing mirror in a change room with horrible sun like lighting that doesn’t hide anything, not even the grey hair on your head coming through your dye job! Put it this way, I have to be in the mood and then I’ll stock up so I don’t have to go back and do it again for ages!

I've been having a pretty blah day, and your post really did something for me. It got a grin out of me and made me feel a little bit better. As far as problems go when buying underwear, I could honestly care less what my underwear look like, so I've gone back to buying the mass market underwear that you can buy at just about any general merchendise store. I used to like the fancy underwear, but when I'm wearing something only for myself (and maybe my hubby), I can't justify the cost of expensive ones.

Have you heard the saying that you can tell what kind of man it is by the polish on his shoes? Well that's really silly because his wife does the polishing! But, you really can tell a lot about a woman's personality by her panties. It is the one thing that she buys entirely without constraint, i.e. entirely by personal choice. My preferred type of woman would be wearing silky, pastel colored panties with small lace decorations, sufficiently sized to be utilitarian but still soft and sexy enough to be very feminine. These show a strong willed, efficient, businesslike woman that has just a hint of lacking in self confidence that requires a strong attachment to her male companion. Don't believe me? Well the ugliest knickers will be found on frumpy, middle aged divorcees who have no chance of ever remarrying. The smallest ones, and thongs, will be found on noisy, foul-mouthed youngsters who, again, have no chance of marrying. Or on those sixty year old plus Barbie doll lookalikes.

My Irish mother always said that if you polish a man's shoes then he would step on you. So I never cleaned by husband's shoes! Interesting response. Have to tell you that I agree with much of what you say. But as a 60 something lady who is widowed and has no intention of ever remarrying I still like attractive feminine underwear but this does not include thongs, tattoos or toy boys. I like to be well groomed as I still work and am very fussy over care of my hair and nails and dress appropriately but not frumpy. Never frumpy. Divas don't do frumpy! Welcome to Mylot and I do hope that you enjoy yourself here. Blessings
