started a disccusion of whether we should pass along creative abilities, but really need to expand that with suggestion on what you think would be the better way to do this.. for example, should we insist that it is taught in class rooms., begin evening classes advertise privately., would genuinely appreciate thoughts and helpful suggestions on how to provide a good, and reaching creative teaching structure., thankyou for your comments

hi artizan! what a very good discussion! i do firmly believe that everyone has something they can turn their hand to, it just needs to be found! whether art or craft or sport..., i was lucky as my school teachers were all of same mind in that, no matter what the subject, each child could excel in an area of that subject if not the whole area be it art or sports or science.. once identified then that child would be given every opportunity and encouragement to do all they could in that field. so to answer i feel that it doesnt matter what area you have an interest in or whether u attend classes or find a like minded soul to encourage and pass on their knowledge and experiences., the point is that u need to find that person, method and most importantly the art that takes u to somewhere special... the method to learn and develop will come along at some point, it's a question of watchin out for the opportunity and not missing it when it appears! xx

excellent comment and understand what your are saying no doubt.. thank you... so better keep my eyes open both ways., one for my own developments and one that i can share my experiences with., mmm some do spring to mind to share with.. perhaps a one to one would be more beneficial rather than trying to bite off more than i can chew right now... but doesnt mean i cant help to influence some decisions of recognising creativity as part of the human development.. thank you for your response :) best wishes x

i think that everyone is creative but it has to be nurutred and i think that it really needs to be taught in the school system and carried on if there is a desire.

i agree with you, the only problem is with uk school systems, that the arts/crafts/music are not seen as a major part of expression or development. thank you for your comment best wishes x

When I was in school we had a class called "home ec" and we learned to cook, sew and home management skills. These classes are no longer offered in our schools. I have taught sewing, cake decorating and cooking and I know from my experience that if this is what I am doing I have to work one on one so for me to try it as a teaching experience that wouldn't work. However, if your area has a need for this and you can do it, go for it, you have nothing to loose and I really believe that the skills need to be learned but I know they can only be learned by those that are willing to learn them. best of luck to you.

thankyou for your comment., indeed the fact that home ec seems to be missing from a lot of shcools is the purpose of the quetion.. and in the past kept my teaching/learning groups low., as better quality instruction and understanding i agree is possible thankyou for your encouragement best wishes x

heh, great discussion. In today's world of cuts I am no so sure we can insist that creative programs be taught in the schools, there just isn't the money for that, at least here in Canada. I thought it was a crime that the schools stopped teaching Home Economics and Industrial Arts. I learned how to sew when I took it in school. My Mom didn't sew, even though her Mom and her grandmother before that sewed and made their own clothes. It is important that these creative abilities be taught else where. My daughter expanded on what I taught her about cooking when she went to summer camp. She also learned to decorate cakes, and photography from her friends. That has helped her earn extra money .

thats a very good point being creative can help earn a little exxtra or in deed a living., yes in many countries with all the cuts this is the area that gets cut first... in another discussion i was reminded of this quoteby oscar wilde " life imitates art far more than Art imitates life.... i believe art/creative and being able not just to express but invest, is the way to help our young ones get a fuller life experience thankyou for your response best wishes x

Hi Artizan, I think that schools should teach crafts more indepth than they do, when I was at school we had needlework an artbut that was about it really but unless you chose to take these subjects you weren't taught them leading up to these choices. I for one other than threading a needle still don't knowhow to sew and only learnt to crochet when I was prgenant with my first child andan elderly receptionist we had at work taught me in break times. Huggles. Ellie :D

that would be my first choice so that the children can have freedom to be crative at an early age., unfortunately schools and our system still doesnt recognise this as part of the development of society and our culture, which has been led by those in creative areas of what ever field.. even if it came under life skills as some still hold the view that art creative is only the privilege of the few... not so it is a gift for us all...i believe thankyou for your response :) there is still time to learn :) best wishes x
