Should I keep my old board games?

I have board games from when I was a kid. I have held onto them for future play..hubby doesn't like playing board games so they have been unused for about 20 years (since I was a kid)...I have been holding onto them in the hope that my daughter will enjoy playing them one day...she is only 3 at the moment so it will be about 2-5 years before she will play them so should I hold onto them or get rid of them? I am doing another big clean out, trying to condense & de-clutter my things again.

Keep them, unless their taking up space. Keep them for memories and for entertainment for your daughter. She will feel the feelings that you've felt when you were playing them.

You're right, I think I will keep the games...they are in boxes in the shed at the moment so they're not taking up any space.

Hi moonchild1au, I believe in saving things that are dear to your heart, especially if they are from your childhood. The games will propbably be great to share with your daughter when she is old enough to enjoy them. You didn't mention which ones you have, but I was curious if they are still in the stores, or are they obsolete? I'd like to think of them as antiques, maybe worth a lot of money. I'm for hanging on to them and one day, there you will be on the Antiques Roadshow with your board games that have risen to an astounding value. Food for thought.

This is true...some of my games are still being made like connect 4, mouse trap, monopoly & scrabble but I think some are obsolete like beyond 2000.

Hi, So, I guess getting rich is out. Just have fun with them when your daughter comes of age to share in the fun. Maybe save the one that they don't make anymore. Take care

I say keep them, We kept ours, well my husband's. The ones I had as a child were first my brother's, then my sister's and then mine... so by the time I got a hold of them, they were tore to pieces... But anyway, we're keeping ours for our future kids, got some in storage, and some at the top of the closet as we intend to play them, if we don't in awhile, we can just tape them up and put them into storage too. I don't know about you but the board games now look just... silly.

I agree, some of the games out now are silly...I am lucky being an only child that I kept my board games in good condition & they are packed in boxes in the shed.

There are some that seem like they'd be fun, but others are just getting ridiculous. I think one problem is the way ours were stored, I think just in a big container and thrown in and out willy nilly, now this was by me. I think maybe I did most of the wear and tear!

Hiya moon, Me personally I would keep them because most of the other toys come and go but those Board Games from before are a thing that you can play with her when she is a bit older yes and those kind of Games create a closer communication and more enjoyment too. The Games my Sister had I would have liked to have had them and still played with them even after all that time. They were games with very bright colours but not only that they made you think and you could never tire of playing with them. If it was me I would hold on to them a while longer and see if she likes them.

I once had a very exquisite chess set, with glass board and pieces. It was white and transparent sapphire. It was almost 87 years old. And I still use it today. Some one is even proposing to buy it for 1000$. even though I wanted the money. it's the value is what is priceless.. heheh

Yeah it does look good and feel good to play. I just avoid those fast phase game that might damage the set. hehehehe. So I keep away the timer clock. hehehe

I think that you should hold on to them so that your daughter can enjoy them when shes older because I am pretty sure that she will have lots of fun. Even you can still play with the board games and inviting your friends over so that they can play too. No one is ever to old for board games. Board games are for all ages for everyone just to relax and unwind that's what their meant for. Board games these days a are a bit expensive I have been trying to find some cheap ones, but their not to cheap maybe I should go look for them on ebay. Cause everything is cheaper on there.

ok, now I am convinced about keping them! Whenever I have friends over, we end up talking too much & never play those sorts of games....I should try it one time.

I definitely feel you should hold on to those games..it's a pity, though, that Hubby has no interest in them, which is probably contributing to your thoughts on this..Board games are great for shared play with family and friends, unfortunately the shift towards the "Couch Potato" or Loner variety of entertainment rather than the more social setting of a group around a table has cut down some of the board game's popularity..good luck with keeping them!

I agree...alot of people prefer to vege out in front of the tv or computer these days...I loved having board game night when I was a kid...I think everyone here is convincing me to keep them.

I would hang on to them.. Play with your daughter when she gets older.. If you decide to get rid of them.. I would do so by way of ebay.. Those things may fetch a bit of money. Some people will pay more for those OLD/Original games.

That's what I was thinking...keeping them for her as I do have the easier games like connect 4 as well.

I think that playing board games is a good recreational game for everyone, young and old alike. It's good that you still have the board games you used to play when you are a kid. It might be a good idea to hold on to them and practice. I hope that your hubby will develop an interest in playing so that you can have someone to play with. Your daughter is already growing and I believe that she can understand some of the rules of the game. Blessing to you.
