I was moved and disturbed by a photo I saw yesterday, and not only that, I was more disturbed by the tragedy that happened to the photographer who took the photo. The photo showed a vulture and a child which was take by Kevin Carter during the Sudan war in 1993. Check out the picture and the story about Kevin Carter after he took the photo: http://elvirasroundabout.blogspot.com/2010/07/photo-and-its-photographer.html I did more research about the photographer and I pity him for being so affected by the picture but I couldn't blame him for taking his life away. I despise those people who blame him for not helping the child as they didn't know truly what had happened and what Kevin felt during the time he took the picture. For him, the photo brought him fame, but fame brought him sorrow.

Yes, I did went through this news yesterday. This is tragic. We should realize that we are in another part of the world where we have all most all the thing. I really felt bad as to what happened . I am sure Carter also felt the same. I hope that we understand the importance of food and the shortage of the food in the world. Let's not waste these. Make GOD bless the soul.

i agree with you, there are many countries who waste food without care but there are many countries whose people die of famine every day, children are malnourished. This is really a sad reality.

Hi elvieb! I read the links. I'm moved as much as I am speechless. My heart is equally heavy. May Kevin rest in peace!

Absolutely! Needless to say this same photo that won him the Pulitzer Prize of 1994 must have opened up the eyes of the world. I wish he finds peace too.

i am too... i'm quite angry at the people who criticized Kevin so much for not helping the child as they too didn't dare to know what's happening in the other part of the world. I believe that Kevin did help by showing to the world the real situation in Sudan that lead to the pouring of help from other countries. I hope he found peace wherever he is right now.

Pretty sad to hear that. But who is Kevin Carter by the way? What he did, and why he was so disturbed by this photo afterward, and enough to kill himself like that? I was just curious on this story.

I don't think any one of us should judge or condemn Kevin Carter for what he did. How many times have we heard of starving children across the world? How many people can say they fed, clothed, and sheltered a child across the world on a daily basis? Look at the picture closely, the child was dying right then and there. And if Sudan was out of food, likely, it's medical facilities were useless, and it would have been nearly impossible to find a suitable place to take that boy in time. I believe Carter tried to help the boy, or wanted to. The photo touches the heart, and it awakens us to a very severe problem of the world. Time tragically ran out for the poor child, and there was nothing Carter could do to save him in time. As for all of you critics... You are just as much to blame if not more. Before you judge someone else, take a long hard look in the mirror and ask yourself how many children, outside of your own, have you fed today. How many naked children have you clothed today? We are all responsible for what goes on in this world. The wars, the greed, the inhumane feeling we get; it all needs to stop. But until we stop acting like spoiled, selfish brats, I don't see that happening any time soon.

Everyone wants to be a critic. The message this photographer should have gotten was "Thank you for enlightening the world!" Here in the US people waste food like you wouldn't believe. This kids game show years ago used food as what happens when you answer a question wrong. Vats of pudding, whole watermelons, you name it was destroyed. I couldn't believe my eyes!

I agree with you, all we can do is just to criticize other people who help or try to help. Kevin Carter may not able to help the child directly but he was able to help others by awakening the world of what was happening to Sudan that led to sending of tons of help to the children and families there. The photo that he took served a big help to Sudan.

yes i've seen this photo. the person who took a snap of this is a hearless idiot. no words to scold him. why didn't help the child? what is the use of worrying after killing a child in front of his eyes?

i accept that i've not been to war torn places but if i were in that situation i would have saved that child's life and i wont take a snap and get any award for it. he has taken many pictures but the guilty consciousness of seeing the child being killed in front of his eyes made him to kill himself. People who support these photographers should think about the child who was not saved by heartless man before letting their words.

It is so sad that the photographer had to kill himself. He may felt very sorry about the reality of life. Where there are some people enjoying the luxury of life, and wasting money for nothing, while on the other part of this world,a nation and it's people dying of starvation. Until now, this is happening out there,in our neighborhood. It need nations to unite in order to resolve the problem, but the problem is,wealthy nations doesn't seems to care. Those powerful ones only gives rescue when worst to worst has to happen before they will lend a helping hand. If only kingdom and kingdom will join forces, there will no more child who will die with starvation.

I agree with you. If only we could spare some for others and not waste food, then we can make a difference. The photographer was not able to take so much criticisms he received for winning the award and for not knowing what happened to the child.

Hi dear, I have seen the same photo along with a set of 15-20 other similar photos. I am not aware of the photographer. I got it with a forward of PPT presentation prepared by someone and briefing about the photo with their own words. My cousin took all the photos and prepared a thesis for his school purposes and they made a debate on the said caption and the teacher made more research on the origin of the photographs. However, it is so sad to see such things around and we should stop all and think a while and feel do something better on our brothers and sister around the globe. Thank-s

yes, there are lots of photos like this but what made the difference is the story behind the photo and the photographer which were both tragic.

It is a really a great thing and also a surprising because when I see the picture and know about it,it is really painful and dangerous ,that why those thing were happening. We cannot bear in mind and have a thought of it.we cannot predict what will happened just after a moment and if those thing happened we can't even imagine it effect and causes .
