Do you believe in long engagements?

My husband and I got married after almost 5 years of dating. For me it was a test for us that if we can last that long then maybe we are compatible enough for marriage. Of course during those times I did learn something about him, his habits, likes and dislikes. But then again, I learned that married life is a lot different from dating and that you'll only get to know your partner really really well during marriage. But I have no regrets for waiting that long. I enjoyed the dating period and my husband was far greater when we got married. How about you mylotters? Do you also believe in long engagements?

No, I do not believe in long engagements. One year to eighteen months is long enough/ Yes, marriage is a lot different than marriage, but you never truly know someone until you are married and living together, you see all their quirks, some things you might love and some things that might annoy you, but if you love each other, you can work through the little stuff. like leaving the toilet seat up. or leaving clothes lay around on the floor...that's the easy stuff!!

Yes I most definitely do. It seems to me that couples who have been together for a long time and have lived together before getting married, have more of a tendency to stay married than those who just kind of jump into it.

Why not? My brother and his girlfriend decided to get married after going out for 6 years. My friend also had the same kind of relationship and they are actually doing well. They also didnt do anything that could destroy their relationship before they got married.

No,I will not believe in long engagements, because I have heard from my friend.That she have got engagement ring when she was 4 yrs old.But now she is 20yrs old and her partner got married with another girl and she was hurt,till now she was waiting for her partner....to come........

Well obviously that's a very different sort of situation than what the discussion was referring to. That's not just a long engagement, but an arranged marriage....I hope... If not, that's really messed up.
