Meditation

Something which I have been trying to do for years and years is meditate. For a very long time I would find myself just getting into the right mindset and what do you know, yet again I would be waking up after yet another half hour sleep and feeling very angry with myself. Not the kind of result I was looking for. Any way recently I have been able to start doing it properly, I bought myself some meditation tracks, guided meditations and binaural beat meditations and what a big suprise, I am now feeling less angry with every body, I am calmer and more optimistic, my migraines have lessened dramatically and I feel a whole lot healthier. Has any body else had the same experience with meditation and do you know of anything else that can keep me on the upward spiral.

Hi, I too had the same challenges for past one year while starting to meditate, even now i am not in track. I don't know why it happening. How did you get in to track. Some time i can't control my anxiety. I knew its not good for health also. one of my friend suggest me to do for 21 days. If we keep on practice any thing for 21 days, it will become a habit. But even continuing for 21 days is also very difficult task. don't know how to follow this.

Hi Suhalekiff, sorry to hear that you are still having problems, the way that I learned to meditate was, yes, I did read loads on the different positions and ways to meditate but then I heard about Binaural beats, these actually slow your brain waves down to the meditative state. It may sound like cheating but I found that once you have been in that state a couple of times, it is easier to reach it, I now do not use the Binaural beats, I have started either concentrating on my breath, if it has been used by Zen monks for all this time I thought it would be wise to use it, or you can get singing bowl music, which is very calming to the thoughts. Hope this helped.

I love to meditate myself and I spend at least an hour every morning in meditation and I do find that I am a lot calmer as well as relaxed as a result. Initially I did try meditating by just sitting in silence and taking deep breaths but this just wasn't working for me. So, I did some research online and I found this company that offers these meditation cds and the company in question has some very good reviews. The company is Centerpointe and this is their website www.centerpointe.com I must admit, their cds can be quite expensive and they have twelve levels and it's up to you whether you purchase all twelve levels or just the first few. I personally have only purchased two levels so far but it is my intention to purchase the remaining levels. The cds use a technology known as Holosync and I don't know the science behind it but they are suppose to help both sides of the brain communicate with each other. From what I have experienced thus far I would definitely recommend Centerpointe as a very viable meditation option. I will definitely be making meditation a part of my daily life for the rest of my life. Good luck with your own meditation practise. Andrew

Hi Andrew, Yes I have heard of centrpointe, I am afraid that their CD's were a little too expensive for me, I do use Binaural beat technology myself, from what I have researched on the net it would seem to be the same thing. Yes, it does help tremendously. I have also got into Tibetan singing bowl music, it has the same effect on me.

Hi moondance, I too like meditation and find it very helpful. There are different forms of meditation but all have one thing in common, focusing on one thing. I also would sometimes fall asleep when I first tried meditation but the important thing is that you feel better today. It is even possible to meditate and no know you're doing it. Blessings.

It is very true that you can meditate and no one knows you are doing it, I once zoned out on a bus into town one day, just concentrating on my breathing, when on my own it is something I like to do on boring journeys, well I did, until this time. I ended up on the other side of town, coming out of my trance as we pulled into the terminus. The bus driver said he thought that I wanted to go there as I obviously wasn't asleep. I just answered I had been daydreaming. Never again, do not meditate on public transport, you do not know where you will end up.

It really is hard to be consistently concentrated in a meditation. But I was taught to just concentrate on my breathing, imagining the route being followed by the air in and out of my body. Straight position of the spine is very important. Some people would find a straightened back to uncomfortable to maintain but we shouldn't also be in a very comfortable position so as not make us go to sleep. Now the air is supposed to be coming in thru the nose,to the throat,to the chest,to the stomach,to the sit bone. Then breathe out to the next station which would be the lower back, passing thru each bone, going up to the tip of the head. This picture would help you focus on your center and not get distracted by any unwanted thoughts. It is a long breathe if you come to think of it which feels so unnatural at first but if you keep doing it then you'll find your own length of breathe that is so regular and full. I'm a Christian and prayer for me is a very good way to meditate too coz my mind and heart just focus to the Almighty till I finally find myself actually focusing in my inner self. Meditation is both spiritual and simply just for physical needs.

Meditation is turning or revolving the subject inside mind and should have full concentration towards it.I have a friend, she meditates always.During weekends we feel bore to stay at home and we go outside just for a pleasure but my friend never joins a company with us but rather she meditates whole day.

Hi krnavtr, I would love to be able to meditate for a full day, but apart from the fact that I have a family who need my attention I am a little wary of meditating too much as I have read that it can be a little addictive. I allow myself 30 mins to an hour in the morning, the same in the evening. It does make you feel so peaceful, if done in a happy mood, which you will yourself in so much more often if you can learn to meditate. Keep an eye on your friend.

Meditation is something your mind needs when you went through stress. It calms your mind, it puts you in your place of happiness.

Meditation is good. It's help to practice our patience to deal with any situation in life. I wish I have my life organized so I can always do such meditation regularly.

Hello Moondance. I am very impressed with your posting about meditation. I have been practising mindfulness meditation for over twenty years now. This certainly is very good for physical and mental health. Have you heard about Sayagyi Goenka ? He is based in India. There are meditation centres in many countries around the world following his teachings ? There must be one in your country too.

Hey moondance Great!!! This has been more of the situation I am in right now. I am sad that I am unable to do the meditation the right way. I am suffering from IBS and Ulcerative Colitis and Actute rhematoid arthritis for the past 10 years and have to stay at home - all day and night. Some months back I read Meditation helps in removing all frustrations, helps in concentration and builds a positive mind set. I started searching the web and was disappointed with the results. But I got some leads like a posture for meditation and some breathing exercises. I have been trying since then but in vain. I know there is something missing and I am not able to know what. Maybe someday I will get to the right way of meditation. You are lucky to have found out some stuff that has helped you get the process right and this is the reason of your reaping its benefits. Good Luck.

What is meditation? It means awareness, whatever u do with awareness is meditation.Watching your breath is meditation;lisitining to the birds is meditation. As long as these activities are free from any other distraction to the mind,it is effective meditation.

Hey! Im glad you have managed to get somehting out of meditation. It is something that interests me..The states of mind one can achieve through meditation. Ive heard of monks having out of body experience..Astral Travelling I think its called. Fascinating stuff. I have never really tried hard enough at meditation I dont think I have the attention span for it. I get bored too quickly. Maybe I should try a little harder. I have heard its a great stress reliever and helps with things like anxiety and depression.

Hi Thumb86, I'm not really into Astral Travelling, I just want to know myself and my spirit it a little better. I would tell you that if you do try a little harder you will find your patience getting better over time. I am still useless at waiting for buses though.
