A Duncan Hines Factoid

United States

I was watching this show tonight that was part of PBS Kids called Everyday Edisons. They were working on a nifty collapsable baking pan. And while we were watching it they mentioned a lil factoid they said something about what baking product was named after a person whom was also a food critic. I thought about this and thought well duh Duncan Hines that's a persons name right? And sure enough Duncan Hines was a real person! If you want a lil more info here's a quick link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duncan_Hines

They are fine. Boxed mix is boxed mix to me..... nothing like bakery fresh items, but boxed is a heck of a lot cheaper to make, then to make from scratch, or buy from a bakery.

Wow, I should've known that! Duncan is a person's name and Hines can be a last name. Though it's an uncommon name, it still is a name. I've not read the wiki article yet but I will as I am interested to know who this Duncan Hines is. By collapsible baking pan do you mean like the ones they show on t.v. where they put the pan on a stand, and the sides go down while the center, which holds the cake, is still on the stand?

It got my curiosity as well wich is why I thought I'd share. No the pan they were working on was a square pan, where the sides fold down.

There might be a real Duncan Hines, but did you know there isn't and never was a real Betty Crocker? Learned that on the food network show "Food Unwrapped"

hi3Snugglebunnies I learn something new every day on mylot. thats really interesting and reminds me of all the Duncan Hines cake mixes I used to use. I didn't know he was a food critic. That is enlightening and the history of his company too, even proctor and Gamble had ownership at one time. interesting.

Well I have learned something today.I had no idea that was a real person, but maybe I should have guessed since so many others are products are named after somebody or their children or grandchildren. Thanks for sharing this information.

That is true many products are named after someone. But we never really take the time to notice such things, or find out about the person who started it all unless you are a big biography buff.
