FIFA reacted instantly when Nigeria President wanted to suspend his national soccer team for their poor performance in the recently concluded FIFA World Cup Soccer Tournament in South Africa.
FIFA even threatened the spoiled brats of the century - France soccer squad when President Sarkozy wanted to conduct a national inquiry on their team's pathetic performance and mutiny.
Now, where is FIFA as the North Korea team is being PUNISHED for their poor performance in the tournament?
The squad, which lost all three of its games in South Africa, has been subjected to a humiliating public dressing-down. It is believed that this event actually took place on July 2, where more than 400 government officials, athletes and students were witnesses. The hapless players spent six hours being lectured, in public, on their failure, during which they were accused of ‘betraying’ a son of dictator Kim Jong-il.
In case, you think the coach was spared for being instrumental in bring this hermit communist state into this prolific tournament, then you are wrong. Coach Kim Jong Hun has been working as a builder in the construction sites since the World Cup.
The only players not at the meeting were Japan-born Jong Tae-se and An Yong-hak, who both fled to Japan immediately after the tournament.
I am really sad to learn of this and felt for the team who had really played their hearts out in this tournament. However, having said this, I felt a little comforting knowing that in the past North Korean athletes who performed badly were sent to prison or hard labor camps.
The French spoiled brats and pathetic Nigerians should really count their lucky stars as FIFA really cannot do anything if a country would take the reigns and hold the players accountable for their misconduct, unprofessional and unbecoming performance representing their countries.
Not being sadistic or cynical, but I am sure followers of this year's prolific soccer tournament would agree with me that a switch of sides would really do a world of justice and better good of the game. For that, I really have to single out the French world cup squad who had been a disgrace and big disappointment for this prolific tournament.
Do you think the French world cup soccer squad deserves to be PUNISHED?

woowww... !! wayyyyy too extreme !!
i dont watch football / soccer.. so i cant really comment on how 'bad' the North Korean played in the WC.. i am sure that they, the players themselves - must've felt very bad with the outcome of their matches.. but the way that that they're punished - is just tooooo cruel...

4mymak,
During the tournament, they had never behaved or played poorly - they even managed to score a goal against the former world champion - Brazil and though they lost, their 2-1 scoreline is already a testimony of their admirable "never-say-die" attitude.
The team overall played the tournament as if their lives had depended on it and had never felt intimidated when they play. Besides, teams like Brazil and Portugal are not any team but world class teams. Portugal is also one of the most expensive ensemble teams in the tournament besides Spain - the eventual champions. So, along with those who have seen their matches, I am sure would agree with me unanimously that the team did not at any time give up or played below their best.
It is really sad to see them being punished like that but I suppose the players could take this as a motivating factor for them to play better when the opportunity and time comes.

Yes, you have raised a very good point. The Korean players were publicly humiliated. Now the coach has been sent to work in the mines and now he thinks that he might even be killed!!
I think this is really taking things too much and if FIFA is making unnecessary noises at other countries, then they should really take on North Korea!!
Cheers!

ram_cv,
I hope FIFA would be humbled, do what they should be doing and do a good job - one of it being the introduction of the "Eagle Eye" technology to improve the quality of refereeing.
I do not think the players or coach will be killed or it would defeat the purpose of these hardcore leaders in communist North Korea. On the whole, the team had really done well - for one they managed to qualify as one of the Asian nations to enter into this 19th FIFA World Cup Soccer tournament, considering the fact that they do not have any player playing in any known professional league or any professional league in their poverty and natural disaster stricken country, representing the country.
