Does it help if I keep changing my avatar?

I'm still not sure what picture to use for my avatar so I may change it soon. But I was thinking also that it may not be good to keep changing it because it may have a negative effect on recall. What do you think about it? for those who have been here since myLot started, how many times you change your avatar and how often you do it?

Hello, Ruth, and welcome to MyLot. I don't think it really makes a difference. As people get to know you and come to your discussions, it's the name they identify with, rather than the avatar. I'm on my second avatar since I joined MyLot about 18 months ago. I decided to change it because I lost quite a lot of weight. Also, I live in Spain, so I wanted something a bit more summery than my original one. I always use a photo as my avatar, as I like people to see who I am. I understand that many people prefer something that protects their identity, and that's fine, but I prefer people to see the real me, though of course I don't give out personal information.

Hi Sandra! I'm glad you used my first name. Sounds warm and sweet to hear that. And I appreciate to see whom I am talking to. So I might change my avatar with a picture of me soon. I'm new here so I'm still feeling my way around. Once I get comfy and feel safe (privacy-wise), I'll be posting more photos then. Oh, well I have a blog link in my profile with my photos so there's really nothing to hide. Thank you for the warm welcome. Blessings!

In a way, changing avatars may cause other members to forget/ignore you. I mean, if we're used to seeing that avatar, it means we can easily recall that certain member. But if one keeps on changing, members might forget that it was that member. In more than 4 years here on mylot, I have never changed my avatar. I do uploaded some pictures of mine but I made it a point to keep my avatar the same as it is so that people will more likely remember my username through my avatar. Best of luck to you.

Wow! You've been here for 4 years! Where was I when this thing started? I only heard of myLot last week. Got your point there. So if I were to change my avatar I must keep it to minimum. Thanks!

I keep changing my avatar to showcase my garden pictures that I have captured. It breaks the monotony of having to see the same picture at the same time I do agree with those who have not changed their avatars since its inception as that in a way gives them an identity here.

I dont like changing my avatar very often. I am not fond of doing that. sometimes one avatar will do and that's it already. I think my avatar now is the same avatar I had for 6 months already and I have no plans of changing it yet.

Changing your avatar should not have an impact on you as a member. Perhaps once your friends get use to seeing one they can immediately identify you by your avatar. Take me for instance I have been a member for two months now and this is my second avatar. I may change again as soon as I get sick of looking it. Some people actually appreciate seeing a fresh new one and have very good positive feedback each time it is changed. It basically is a matter of preference. Welocome - Welcome and Happy myLotting.

I think that if you change your avatar rapidly then some of your friends could get confused. I know many people who learn the identification of a member with their avatar. So... your friend could get astonished if you change your avatar rapidly. Though it is true that sticking with the same avatar is boring and to change avatar is interesting. You should change your avatar once a month and after the changing inform all your friends about your new avatar. Happy mylotting!

Sounds like this is what I'm thinking to do. Moderation. Keep it minimal. Thanks for the input. Blessings!

I haven't changed my avatar since i joined mylot.. I don't know the reason, but i stay with my current avatar. This might help my friends to recognize me by just looking at my avatar before looking my name.. I sometimes think of changing mine, but i drop the idea of keeping the same..

I don't think so. I will keep my avatar as much as possible, because till the end it will associated with my user name.

i am new here in mylot and i think it's much better if you'll stick only to one avatar.. That way, people here will recognize you and will be familiarized with your account.. well, that's only my idea. ^_^

Well I do change my avatar when I have my updated photo of myself. Why not put a real photo of you, maybe that much better so that all your friends can identify you even you change it regularly. And all I know is my friends are recalling me true my username.Anyway there is no negative effect on that.

Hello Ruthsm. I chose my avatar because it goes with my name and people seem to like it so I'll be keeping it for a while. I've never really thought about the effects of changing it. I suppose people get used to seeing an avatar next to our name so they associate us with that picture. If we change it completely our friends might not see us on here.

Well I have never changed my avatar even if I am here for a long long time. It is very difficult for someone to trace you back if you just keep changing your avatar again and again. I think you can create a GIF image with your favorite images and let it play continiously so you will have all your favorite images in one! Its up to you now...
