Sometimes you will be surprised when a street children comes to you and ask for money. When they surprised me, I tend to back-off. But sometimes, I give food instead of money because I think its better to give them food than money. Also, I can't get it off my mind that when I see street children, someone was controlling them & forcing them to beg, that's why I prefer to give food.

I was getting so sick of people asking me for money on the street that I started to hand out job applications. I really haven't had any children, but I am sure that my response would be difference. I have a soft spot, as for adults, they could go give plasma, work at a day labor place, or try to get a job in a fast food place. Or all three for that matter. I am in a rough position in life, but do not and would not resort to begging. There are too many other ways to get money if you really want it.

One thing about adults being homeless and having a job is they have to have an address to get a job. So as some of them would love a job and some even do under the table work and not all can get to a shelter because they are full. A job application may be nice but may make things worse in my opinion. And I do know that there are some out there that stay that way by choice but not all.

They also have to have nice clothes to do the interview in and as being homeless I'm sure they do not have.

well i tend to ignore them even though i feel sorry for them. The thing is if you pay them they dont get it it goes to soemone else so I dont pay them. However if I am in a rickshaw or something and I am eating or have somthing in my bag then i tend to give them that. But then that means i have to go to work on a hungry stomach lol

I am often sorry with street kids, but I also often angry and resentful. My outrage not I show to street children. But more I show to those who take advantage of the sweat droplets street children. Just like you, more wise than we give him food to give money because it would benefit only those who take advantage of street children.

True enough. We don't want those strong guys who can work just taking advantage of the poor kids.

I dont like giving money to beggars because I dont believe that it is the right way of helping. I know some of them really need the money but they put themselves in danger since most of them do this on the streets. I give, but I give it to our church who gives them food and teaches them ways to earn money.

oh.. nice! that's a good thing. They really need to be taught to learn how to earns money.

i have been really hesitant to give alms to street children because i don't know if it is for real or someone is behind all the idea. i had an experience once. i gave this little kid some loose coins only to find out later that he used it for some kind of gambling together with the other kids. also, my friend had her own experience as well that ended my sympathy towards these children. while my friend was driving around the area looking for a space to park, a little girl approached her car, knocking on the windows and beg to buy all the flower garlands she was selling. since there were like 5 or so left, my friend bought them all. after more driving around, my friend saw this same kid with a new batch of flower garlands in hand approaching other drivers. she went to her and asked "i thought those i bought were the last you had?". the little girl just replied "and you believed me?" then ran..

I guess that attitude was formed in their own homes. It is a pity that these children learn these things early in life and I blame the parents who raised them. I would assume that these children are not going to school. I hope that you will not hesitate buy next time a child sells you flower garlands.

I have seen a lot people do just that. Run away to escape. The tendency for most of us to turn the other way, as if the people knocking on our car windows do not exist. But I'd like you to put it this way. What if you were in their shoes? what would you feel? Just asking. Cheers.

I rarely give to street children anymore. Some are not even street children actually but will try to appear like they are to get money for computer games. Some come from a tribe called "badjao" and I think most children were raised to beg for a living. It's like they don't know anything else but to beg. The adults fish and sell their catch but most of them really beg on the streets

Just like most of us...I give food instead of giving out money cz there's a possibility that they'll use the money for gambling.

Hi etp, I always have a heart to street children that when they come to beg I will get my purse to hand them some coins as it is the most convenient way of helping them but if I happen to have some food on hand I prefer giving food than money. Of course, it sometimes come to my mind that they may be controlled by sindicates but what if not and they are just orphans who needs food to fill in there empty bellies? In such a little way I can help them without being tormented by my conscience if i decided to reject them of a single penny which is actually worthless for me as i'm luckier than they are. Good Day!

You are doing the right thing in giving food. Who knows what the money will be spent on or who will take it? You could also give practical little gifts like a small item of clothing. If you are worried about street children, give to a charity that supports them. They have the expertise to spend the money wisely.

When I see beggars asking for alms, I usually get upset thinking why these poor people are being deprived from a healthy living. Mostly, I pity the children and instead give then food. I don't usually give money since I know that it is tempting for any other reasons. They will appreciate food since they can easily utilize this to make their empty stomach full.

I drive everyday to and from work and there is not one day that I do not see street children or for that matter, street people who are begging. I do give them loose change sometimes but I prefer to give them food. I am just wondering though. Are we really obliged to help these people that way? What is the governemnt doing bout this situation? I am not trying to be selfish but I guess that is one of the reasons why we live in a civilized society and we have what we call our government to organize all the help that they need. If we really want to help and our government is keen on doing its duty to its citiznery, then I guess the best thing to do is still to donate to legitimate charitable institutions or probably give some of your time in visiting/caring for these hapless people.

When confronted with a homeless person or a beggar I never give them money. I either give them food if I have any on hand or go and buy some to give them. You never know what they are going to do with the money you give them and from my experience here most that I have helped prefered the food. The last time I helped someone in that possition we took the guy inside the local Bob Evans (kind of like I hop) and had him order some food and paid for his ticket and the tip so he could eat some place cool as it is really hot here in Central Fl. Then I went my own way.

Begging is the only thing these kids can do which are easy so, i don't know, if they were kids i would give them money, but if it was like an adult i would just probrably give him/her some food, if you have hands and legs then you should earn money yourself but if you don't then i think you have the right to beg, am i right or wrong? By watching the movie Slumdog Millionaire, i caught a glimpse of a life of a child who begs and the scum bag who forces them to, it just saddens me. Well that's life. Peace.

i dont give money to child beggars....because they deposit this money to their boss or parents who tells them to beg .....if i have food i just give them....and if i dont then i buy some food from nearest restaurant and give to him....this has happened with me when i was standing out of a restaurant with my friends after having dinner ..one child came to us and he begged money .....one of my friend asked him what do u do with this money he told that he will give it to parents....then we bought some food and gave him...and i felt it better than giving money to him..

I pity those street children begging for money. They are innocent people who need to survive in this world. So, whenever they approached me I will surely give anything to benefit them. I always ensure to give them food or buy them food myself if I have time. If no time, I give them very small amount of money. I also believe that some of these street children are being run by mobsters, but they are still kids who need our help. I know somebody will help them out in time and I will be happy to give my share once they approached me. I really believe that it is better to give than to receive and I believe in good karma.

when i am in a public dining area and street kids approached me, i gave them food instead of money. but when i am in a vehicle or is walking down a street, i just usually turn them away nicely, by shaking my head no. I did that because i don't want other street children who might be watching us to come down on me and beg me for more if they see me giving to other street kids.
