What's your dog's story?

Rex - He wasn't a fierce dog at all.

I visited my parents this weekend, and when we were talking about dogs, we remembered Rex. I want to share with you Rex's story - a story with happy end. It happened a long time ago, I think there have been more than 13 years since then. I went to my parents and I found my mother crying. When I asked her why, she told me that my father brought home a black stray, and he told her that the dog was one of those dangerous breeds (a pitbul, actually). She told me, between her tears, that she didn't want such a dog in her yard. I ran to see the fierce dog, but instead of a 'dangerous pitbul' I found an emaciated black mutt, who was fawning with his whole body because he was not alone any more. He wasn't a pitbul at all! When I asked my father why he had choosen this stray from hundreds of strays, he told me that Rex had something in his eyes he couldn't resist. My father was to a footbal match and Rex sat next to him for the whole game. That's why he decided to take him home. His friends told my father that the dog he was about to take home was a pitbul, but it didn't matter to him. I had to convince my mother that Rex wasn't a pitbul, so she can stop worry. I showed her some pictures of pitbuls, and eventually she understood she had nothing to fear. We all laughed at the whole story, and Rex became a full member of the family. He lived for about 13 years in our family, and he died of old age. So, what's your dog's story? Would you like to share it?

I have been a dog lover ever since I was a kid. And Yes! I would like to share my story of a spitz we had....also a long time ago. We call her Timi. We just moved to a new house. Across our house is an empty lot with tall grasses. One late evening while I was in my room banging work into my computer to meet a deadline, I heard Timi incessantly barking in our frontyard. I looked out the window to check but I could not see anything. So I took out my flashlight and went outside to see what was bothering him. I still could not see anything in the dark so I went right behind Timi and was scared out of my wits (for lack of a better descriptive word) when I saw what she was barking at. It was a big cobra with the head fanned out ready for attack. Fortunately for me, the cobra was occupied with Timi barking at her that this gave me a chance to run back inside the house and call for help from our neighbors. Timi went on confronting the cobra and would not respond to my call to get inside the house. But it was probably her barking that saved me. That plus the fact that the cobra was shedding off skin...which probably weakened the thing. The neighbors finally came to our aid and was able to catch the cobra. I will never forget Timi. This happened years ago and Timi is no longer with us. But I will always love dogs as they are friendly and protective companions of men if treated well.

I can't stop wondering how dogs can almost give their life to defend their owners! It seems there is a God for dogs, who protect them in such cases. Nera did something like that once. She was such a calm dog, and she had never shown any sign of aggresion toward people. Until that morning when two young men attacked me on street. My calm and people loving dog turned herself into the most fierce defender of mine. She attacked back the two aggresors, barking fiercefully and showing her teeth. They had nothing to do but hiding themselves behind a fence, shouting to take my dog away from them. As I said, there must be a God for good dogs, because we were so lucky the attackers were afraid of dogs. Otherwise, they could have been hurt Nera or even worse, kill her. I'll always remember my brave Nera defending me, like you will never forget your Timi's courage.
