I am thinking about buying my wife an ebook reader. She enjoys reading and it would be more convenient when we travel. My question is what is the best type to get. She likes to read romance novels, best sellers, and some historical novels. What has been your experience with the different readers out there in the market?

I don't have one, but what I know is if you buy the Amazon one you can only buy novels from Amazon but if you buy the Sony one you can buy ebooks wherever you want. Hopes she enjoys the gift.

Yes indeed. Amazon Kindle is a nice ebook reader but the thing is, you can only buy ebooks from them. The Kindle is nice and your wife would love to have with its wireless feature when downloading ebooks. The thing is, more of their features will only run in US and not elsewhere. Though they have the global version of Kindle, some users experience some glitches after downloading few ebooks.

I too am thinking of buying an ebook reader and I have done a lot of research on the internet and have asked around all my friends. It seems the favourite one is the Amazon Kindle. As you have probably guessed from my spelling of 'favourite', I am from the UK! We have been playing catch-up with the Kindle but the newest version will be available here in the next couple of weeks. It looks great. A couple of my friends have the new Apple iPad which has a book reader too (I think it's an extra app you have to buy)which they say is fine. I'm always a bit wary of buying anything technical that's too new. I like to get the glitches ironed out in the first version! However, I think the Kindle is now here to stay.

If you have a chance to try one I would suggest that you do that. My wife is not a tech person but found an older version of Kindle to be easy to use.

You are a very nice husband and it is very kind of you to do so for your wife. Since your wife loves reading, it is a good idea to buy her an ebook reader. I installed a software in my cellphone, and this software can speak the .txt format files for me. The .txt files are quite common so it is also easy to find such kind of ebooks. I can read or listen to it from my cellphone. When I am on the way to work or go home, I just listen to the ebooks. Just another options for your reference. I love China

I have an ebook reader on my palm but it is difficult to read on the small screen and small print. My wife has stuck by me through some tough times so she deserves to be treated special.

I happen to read some e-books but it happens very rarely too as I find it a bit difficult to follow all the lines and understand at the same time, I love reading but I prefer to read directly from books though.

I also contemplating to have one and do a little research over the net. If your residence is in US, buy the Amazon Kindle. It got nice features and e-ink tecknology that will not strain your eyes even when reading for such a long time. I would love to have one for myself but it is restricted in Singapore. I can only asked someone from US to buy for me and ship it here. They launched a new version just last month and it only costs $189.00. The thing is, you have to buy also the ebooks from Amazon which requires you to have a credit card from US or some claims they can use the Amazon gift card. I am still researching if it will be okay for me to purchase it as there might be some limitations for me to use it given that I am not in US territory. The next thing I am considering is Sone E-ready though it's much costly. There are other ereader out in the market that can support various file types. Just choose which one will suit your wife.
