Well, I did it

Today we went to town for me to pick up my fair entries, drop off paperwork at the college and take care of other errands including scheduling PT for my leg and back. Our last stop was at the grocery store for a few food items.
I had been considering a puppy for quite awhile. Monica and Little Bit are really great at laying around and doing nothing, which isn't good for Dachshunds. I thought about a toy Chihuahua which could be easily carried around. Someone had other ideas for me.
We came out of the grocery store and standing there was a young woman holding a Dachshund puppy. Bill pointed her out to me, so I had to go over and see the puppy. It turned out that she was giving away the poor little boy. So guess what soft hearted (or is that headed?
) person immediately collected the puppy. Yes, good ole Loverbear. He is a sweet little boy, and there isn't anything that has frightened him yet. He has met all the family members and none of them phased him in the least bit. I figured that Abby would scare the daylights out of the tiny guy, but he went right up to her and touched noses to say hello.
I was even more amazed when I decided to stop on the drive home and take him for a walk. I had some cord in the back of the car and made a collar out of one end and the rest was the leash. He padded along with no problems, he didn't even balk at my walking him back and forth...and he didn't get frightened when vehicles drove by us. He slept in my lap during the rest of the drive home.
Now, I am trying to figure out what to name him. It's going to take a couple of days to figure out the name for the new family member, and even longer for Bill to quit kicking himself for pointing out the little guy and to accept that I grabbed him in a heart beat. The only problem now is his mouth. He is busily letting the world know that he isn't happy being in the pen with Monica and Little Bit. They are just sitting there watching him whine. I'm fairly sure that will stop when I turn off the lights and go to bed.
Okay, how about some name suggestions! I don't want the usual names for dogs...

I think the whole family was heart broken. He is one heck of a dog! (Puppy) He's afraid of nothing and he will try anything. I walked him down to the neighbor's last night and he padded right beside me, and there were steps and he climbed right up them like a trooper. He also chases the cats through the house. Talk about entertainment!
I'll be doing a post on that along with pix of the puppy tonight when I get home from getting the tires dealt with. (I got brand new tires in May, haven't put a thousand miles on them and the rear ones are already ruined and ready for replacement. It looks like the tire place is going to replace the tires for free! Thank God! I can't afford new tires again. I have been putting used tires on the car because of the budget, but Bill went halves with me so I could get new tires all around.)
Anyhow the one fun thing about the puppy is that he chases Dinglebeary my Mainecoon cat. Ding Ding is the dominant member of the household and runs from nothing, except for the puppy.
I was thinking about I.D. or Id. For Impossible Dog or Improbable Dog. Simply because it would normally be impossible for me to get a mini Dachshund puppy for free and it is improbable that I would get a dog this great. I am really hooked on the little fart. Also waaayyyy back there was a comic strip called "The Wizard of Id". I loved that strip and this puppy is like a character out of that strip.

How about Cujo, I get lots of laughs from my little yellow dog named that!
Or Freebie?
or get really silly, name him Free Willy, because he was free and Bill (William) pointed him out... you could still call him Freebie then... and a little Dachshund named after a killer whale - well, that's even sillier than Cujo...
you didn't say if he's a red Dachie or not, that might be something you can pick a name off of
I love those little puppies sitting in the big dog bowl that says Killer on them, obviously you don't want to go with that, might make people treat him poorly, but maybe a "Big" name for the little guy - Samson, Hercules or even Tarzan...
Maggiepie once was doing 20 questions on a job and the person asking the question got the name of that Great Ape - King Kong wrong, thought it was Hong Kong....
just a few suggestions

Tarzan wouldn't be too bad! I really like that one. Tarzan was fearless and would do anything, just like this little fart. I took him for a walk yesterday morning and he and the rest of the crew happily padded along with us. I walked him down to the neighbor's house last night and the puppy followed happily and even climbed the steps that were twice his size! (He's only about three inches tall right now)
The neighbors both suggested Killer and Cujo. One of my other neighbors has a toy Yorkie named Killer.
Humm, I am really liking Tarzan. I was swinging him on his toy last night and he was holding on like crazy and growling the whole time.
I am going to post pictures later today when I get back from getting the tires done. We put new tires on my car (I've only been able to afford used ones. New tires were a real treat!) and I haven't even put a thousand miles on them and the rear ones need to be replaced. The tire place is going to replace the tires for free and also check the alignment on the rear. If the rear is bad I may have to get rid of the car and get a different one.

This grocery store wouldn't happen to be Wal-Mart, would it?
Well, if it is you could always call him Wally!
LOL
So, do you have any pictures of your new addition? Maybe that will help others come up with a name. Plus, I'd sure love to see the little guy!
Happy mylotting!

What no pictures? Congrats on your newest addition, I had considered a dach at one point, but never have I found one for free, so we never got one. I like the name Digit, but my son likes the name Duke.

Hi Loverbear! Awwww~ He sounds so adorable! Can't wait to see
the picture! How about "Doxy"? Not really one of my best names,
just can't think right now, please forgive. My two babies (kittys)
are not well and have to take them to the Vet on Friday. Their
urine has an ammonia smell and I know that isn't a good thing
and Luna has been vomiting (and so has his mama (me)so am very
worried right now. My last two cats were very sickly and I am
praying that these two boys aren't. They are only six years old.
Am hoping they just need a change in diet. Had them to the Vet
a few months back when I found a tiny drop of blood in Star's
urine and it was just a bladder infection. Hoping this is something
not too serious. Please pray for my babies because they are the
loves of my life!

It's so funny how we cannot resist to take home puppies like this lucky guy! No matter how much we plan what to do, when we see such a helpless puppy, we fell in love in a second and all our plans become hystory.
So what if your new puppy is not a Chihuahua? It is still a small breed dog, so you'll be able to easily carry him around.
I'm sure your other furry friends will have to change their routine, in order to keep the pace with the little one.
As for the little one's name, I sugest you name him 'AZOR'. It used to be a common dog name in my country, before the World Wars. It is pronounced A-ZOR ('A' like in 'arm' and 'zor' like in 'Zorro'). I like this name very much, and if I ever have a male dog (which is quite imposible for the moment) I'll name him Azor.

I am so sorry that you can't have a dog right now. They are such great company and such fun. The puppy is really impressing me. He is afraid of nothing! I took him to the neighbor's house last night and he walked right with me, climbed the steps and snuggled with the wife and fell asleep in her arms. He chases the cats without fear. He takes great delight in chasing Dinglebeary my Mainecoon cat. Ding Ding is the ruler of the house so it is a riot to see this little dog who is barely 3 inches tall chasing a cat that stands a foot tall.
A-Zor sounds like a great name. Does it have a meaning behind it? I really want a name that fits this puppy's fearless personality.
I am going to be posting pix of the puppy tonight after I get back from getting the tires and alignment on my car done. The rear tires had less than a thousand miles on them and they are already ready for replacement. I went to where I bought them and they are replacing the tires for free and also taking care of the alignment.
Have a wonderful day and thank you for the name suggestion. I really like it and will use it, if not for the puppy for the stuffed bears and other animals I create.

But, Loverbear, I already have a dog. We live in a small apartment, and one dog is more than we can keep here. That's why I said it's quite imposible to get another dog.
I don't think Azor means something. It's just a name for the guardian of the house.
For a dog like you've described, it doesn't fit. Your puppy needs a more active name like ... Mercury or Courage or something.
I wonder how long will it take to Dinglebeary to show the little one who's the ruler of the house.
How did the other dogs accept the new Doxie? (Yet, you didn't tell us what's the new puppy's colour)
