Why do women likes to become fairer,even not affordable to budget?

I have observed this all around my neighborhood,that most women do make a slice of their budget to make their skin whiter.Sometimes,I heard that even if they just eat rice with anchovies,as long as they can buy a cosmetic to make their skin more fairer,
with the aid of some nutritional pills for whitening,are just some of the things they like to buy just to make them beautiful and white.I know that more women know these things just to attract,but what are your opinions regarding this discussion?

I think it's just vanity. It really depends on where you're coming from because in my country, being fair is easily associated with beauty because the colonists were fair but I don't think it's the same case in other countries. I know Australians and Americans are obsessed with tanning which is more harmful actually because the activity speeds up the aging process. It's a matter of taste, I reckon but I think this generation is just really obsessed with beauty in general.
