actually i am from kerala,India and here in our college we have student unions. like SFI,KSU,ABVP etc, and all these unions are associated with some political parties in our country and have strikes in colleges sometime. today is a stike day in our college. the reasons for a strike in the college may be silly. how ever i enjoy these kind of unexpected breaks in the continuous course of college. do you have strikes in your college?

i've studied in a university in j&k, India and as there were no unions related with political parties, so there were no political strikes. but still there were some strikes but they were only due to some internal problems like fee hike, low campus placement (i passed at the time when the recession was at its peak).

Last week, when US Ambassador Harry Thomas visited the University of the Philippines, he was blocked from exiting the premises where he was guest. The League of Filipino Students make it a point that the grievances of the people are heard. So they pop at every university where they could air their sentiments.

I am in Canada and in saint john their was a strike a few years back where all the janitors went on strike. This really interrupted things and eventually classes were canceled or the day was shortened from this.Lots of college students found this to be really annoying and some dropped out because of this or had to repeat a class in the following term. This is not fair for students and hopefully these kinds of strikes can be be prevented as it is not a good thing to loose all that money students pay into tuition and other expenses to go to college.

I experienced one when I was in College. The strike began when the College admin pronounces a tuition fee increase wherein of course the student opposes. I did not join the crowd, I just stand at the highest floor watching a number of students shouting "NO TO TUITION FEE INCREASE!!" There's no Union or such in our campus so strike is not that common.
