What is most important for Kids, Love or Discipline?

Kids today seem to be experts at dealing with parents, is it more important to sometimes turn a blind eye to discipline and treat them with love and affection or does obedience, respect and a stern manner still have a part to play?

Love and affection is, I think, what's needed. With this comes the respect needed for discipline. I was never stern with my kids and never had any real problems. Children do, though, need (and I think want) boundries as to what they can and can't do.
