Have you ever had laughing gas?

My 8 year old daughter is scheduled to have a dental procedure in a couple of days and her dentist has suggested laughing gas because she is a very anxious patient. I have never had it myself and I don't know anyone who has personally has it. What should I expect to happen? Is it really helpful? Are there any bad outcomes (not that I really think I want to hear any). I am just curious since I have to make the decision to give it to her or not.

I know about this gas as i was a chemistry student..but never have seen any person in real taking or given this gas...i would like to see it in future...how it acts and how the person behaves when he is given this gas....i hope everything was alright with your daughter as i am responding to this discussion very late

Don't feel bad about being late, I don't get to check mylot regularly anyway so in a way you are right on time! Everything did go well with my daughter. I she was somewhat anxious about what to expect but she had no complaints other than the smell, and that was because the nurse was teasing her and told her it smelled like candy but apparently it had a not so great smell.

My mom almost always has laughing gas when she goes to the dentist as she too is a very anxious patient as well. It has always help her. They gave it to me once and I did not have a good reaction. I often have strange reactions to things though so I am not good to base reactions off. Every time they tell the dentist about my reactions I am the only one that they have heard of having it. It works great for most people and it helps you more relaxed so the dentist can work faster and easily.

Hi.. Sorry I can't help you with your decision as I haven't tried it myself either. I'm really curious about it. I didn't realize that it is somehow being used for stuff like that, like dentist. I only saw that in movies and I thought those act are just for fun. In movies, they look really hilarious because they kept on laughing and everything. But I'm curious how it works... I know that it will make you laugh but how about the pain? I think its better for your daughter to have just an anesthesia so that she won't feel anything and will not get traumatized in going to the dentist. But who knows, the laughing gas might also be really effective.
