M Night bashed because of The Last Airbender

Well, I love Avatar (animated series) and just like any of the fans - I have so much expectations for this one. As just like any other fans, I have my disappointments also. Let's start with his highlights: The effects are good. The score (music) was very amazing. It made me blind to see the characters act because I was so moved by the music. I have to watch it twice to really see the characters. LOL. James Newton Howard is really a prodigy when it comes to this one. The kid who played Aang is very graceful. His emotions were all in the eyes. Katara is not so bad too. Well, that's it. Ahaha. Jaiho (Zuko) did a good job too. He was my favorite character in the movie. Downfalls: The characters. Very AWKWARD. Less emotions and less actions. M Night should have been placing his focus on the characters instead of the effects because it's the characters who makes the story. I forgave him though because of his previous works like Signs, Lady in the Water and The Village. The difference is that the actors in his previous films all have experiences and very great actors. I know you get what I mean. They hardly need directions. The pacing of the story, the storyline lacks spontaneity and humor. The guy who played Sokka is the one who played Jasper in Twilight, right? He should have gone back to Twilight. LOL. All the charaters need some workshop except for the Firelord and his assistant (who died) But I still have more faith in Airbender. I prefer this one over Twilight's 3rd movie. No offense Edward fans.

I'm also a huge fan of Avatar; Last Airbender Series. But I have a bad impression towards M. Knight Shaymalan in doing movies. So before hitting the cinemas, I read the reviews first, so I won't be disappointed of spending cash in a not so worthy movie. Sorry I can't think of any other adjectives to describe it.. lol. The movie was okey. Ideally the movie is for the kids that is why the lines that were used were simple and not that deep. Unlike in the series, the movie was all talk less action. Probably they were trying their best to squeeze all in and that those who were not the Avatar fans won't get lost in the story, which the result is the movie was too dragging. I like the idea of the nations. Each nation has a certain culture, like the Fire Nation, all of them are Indians; the Water Tribe are Caucasians; the Earth people are Chinese; except for the Air Nomads which I'm not sure which culture are they. But the casting was not that impressive, the cast were too serious for their roles. I think M. Knight Shaymalan should watch the series a thousand times in order to absorb the whole story.. So the money that the Paramount spend in the movie won't go to waste.

Lol. I nderstand you completely. Just like me, you are also big fans of movies so I can't blame you that you don't want to watch this one. In Facebook, there are a lot of anti M Nights because of The Airbenders fail. I enjoyed reading their sentiments. And yes, I have to agree. M Night is targeting kids on this movie. :D

In my opinion, M Night is a horrible director. He has made like..ONE decent film (the sixth sense). Admittedly, I haven't seen the last airbender..But based on the trailer alone I can comfortable say that I don't want to see it. It looks trite and unoriginal. Id just spend the whole time yawning. Special effects are not everything. They are not the sole key to a movies success. No doubt the masses will get a kick out of all the bright colours and pretty explosions though...*yawn*

I have to agree with you. Special effects is never the soul of the movie.

I'm a huge fan of the original TV series. One of the best high fantasies ever to grace television! I also kinda like M. Night. I haven't seen "The Happening" (And I'm thinking I don't want to.) But I really like "Signs", "Unbreakable", and "Lady of the Water". I already knew James Newton Howard was brilliant... my sister's a huge soundtrack fanatic and he's her favorite composer. I really had high hopes for the movie! But like you, I was really disappointed. I thought the actors (With the exception of Zhao) did really well with the material that they had. The action sequences were really amazing, and of course the music was phenomenal. I think the movie's two big downfalls are in the writing and the editing. The story wasn't adapted well. Huge and important sections of the story were shoved off into the narrator's voice over. The scrolling text at the beginning and Katara's speech? Cheesy. Awkwardly written and poorly executed. And why does it take Aang until the Southern Air Temple to actually introduce himself? There are loads more I can name, but that would take all day. As for the editing, I could tell they'd planned for a much longer movie and then at the last minute chopped huge sections out. They shot scenes with the Kyoshi Warriors, with more Kataang... but for some reason they got cut. The cuts were jarring and cheap... you couldn't understand a lot of what was happening. I saw both Eclipse and The Last Airbender at their midnight showings, within 24 hours of each other. I was much happier with the adaptation of Eclipse, and I was extremely disappointed in The Last Airbender. I'm not going to bash M. Night. I actually liked most of his movies up until this point. I don't want my money back... the midnight showing was fun and I'm glad that I went. The original cartoon is still there for me to enjoy and it is by no means ruined. I'm kinda hoping to see a re-cut or extended cut. I think if they corrected loads of the edits then it would be significantly better. Not likely as good as I hoped it would be, but better.

True. So many holes in the movie. And based on your response - you are the biggest Anime Avatar fan in here. LOL. You really know what you are talking about. Sokka has a lot of funny lines in the anime yet the one who portrayed him is... well, very disappointing. I just hope the second one will be very much better.

TotallyUndecided- I am a pretty huge fan of Avatar. Don't know if I'm the biggest fan in here... but I absolutely love the series. Sorry if I sound a little persnickety but it's actually not an anime. I hear people call it an anime all the time... but it's a common misconception. Anime refers to a Japanese cartoon. Avatar was 100% made in America. I'm also hoping that if they make the second one, that they will have learned from their mistakes. Ivansama- I'm not so sure about that. They're important to the rest of the series, so leaving them out causes problems adapting the other two movies. (If they actually do adapt them) Plus they added a depth to the story and background on the other avatars. As it is, the movie felt shallow and flat.

it's a good thing he left out the kioshi warriors. it's a new sub plot that would just mess up the movie even more

According to many fans, M. Night, who claims he is a fan of the actual show, sucked all the life, and the humor out of the story and made it far too confusing to the audience, and the fans disliked his casting choices. It's pretty bad when the fans of the original source material hated it. I'm not going to see it until my local library gets the DVD. I won't waste my money, I won't mind wasting my time watching it because I can review it for myself, but that's why M. Night is getting bashed.

LOL and what about those Jacob fans? Apart from this, I have watched the last airbender in it was devastating, I hoped for so much more and in the end I got so much less than what my expectations were. In short, a very disappointing result, lame act of characters, many holes in plot because they got so many information down and too many moving with few effects!!! For example: the fight in the earth bender's prison, there were a group of many earth benders who danced together, eventually that dance which took so long made a stone, as small as a freckle to fly over to one of the guards, while those guards were just standing there and staring!!! Tough the customs were really good!

To be honest, I have only seen one or two episodes of the anime so I can't really compare the two. But the kids movement was kind of funny to me... I think Jaden Smith could have done the scenes better.
