Today is the 65th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima. Take a moment today to remember that war really doesnt solve anything, often it just creates more problems.

Maybe the best remembrance is to concentrate on the positive; Somehow, our war torn, power hungry, greedy little world has managed not to use weapons of mass destruction in that horrifying way for sixty five years. Hopefully, we can continue along the same path.

It depends on what your definition of "weapons of mass destruction" are. Napalm had some horrifying effects in the Vietnam war.....ever heard the term "agent orange"?

It was a very sad thing what US did. I'm not either so I can judge. It wasn't fair at all, they were all civilians and after them babies were born deformed, what a terrible ordeal.

Hi cher, I agree with you completely, war does not solve anything just creates more problems. When are we going to learn? Blessings.

As an American citizen, it breaks my heart when I think of my beloved homeland doing this to another country and it's people. I wasn't alive then and wasn't living through a World War but I cannot for the life of me IMAGINE what the circumstances were that caused the government to unleash that monstrosity. And, once was not enough. It had to be done a second time. I just don't get it. Ok. Some could argue that it ended the war and that it was a "just" response to the bombing of Pearl Harbor but.........really?????? Why wasn't it dropped on the Hitler regime instead? I really don't get it and, as a humanitarian, don't think anybody could provide an argument that would justify it in my mind. You are absolutely right Cher. War doesn't solve a damn thing. Never has. Never will.

The bombing of Hiroshima (and Nagasaki) was appalling, such a huge loss of life and a terrible act. I have read lots of factual books and memoirs about it and it is fascinating what happened, but horrific too. I can't imagine how much the world changed in that short period of time. Definitely needs to be remembered.

The U.S. didn't start that war, and there was every indication that if the U.S. and the Allies had tried to invade Japan, the wholesale slaughter of people, both soldiers and civilians would've been horrible. We had the indication of trying to take the islands back from the Japanese and how difficult and willing to die they were to consider invading the Japanese homeland. War is terrible, the bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki were devastating, but it did bring the end of the war months, if not well over a year sooner than it would've otherwise.

That war had a few reasons. one that not many people dont know about is religion. there was a dispute about religion that helped cause the war years before it was declared. They disagreed about a certain god that they wanted to follow. also i beleive there were a few people who comiited treaty. that bombing we brefily looked at in highschool i dont remember much about it
