I remember....

I discussed the date. Agreed the format. Finalised timings and confirmed my attendance at least twice. But come the day, or night, I forgot to attend my friend's BBQ!!!! Today when folk said how surprised they were that I wasn't there I was genuinely mortified that I could have been so rude as to forget his "do". Have you ever forgotten something that you absolutely meant to do, but then plain forgot?

It's usually birthdays that I have teed up. I even get 3 alerts online before hand to remind me. I have the card, I have stamps but come the day I forget all about it. Not only that but, I have spent a morning cooking a huge amount of a savoury dish and then a huge dessert, I napped in the afternoon then got up and I showered and got dressed up and put my make-up on then I realise I'm a day early.

That's almost unforgivable. My little sister would do all sorts of nasty things to me if I forgot her birthday!

Hi p1ke, there was something I forgot to do quite afew years ago-but it really does still make me laugh. I rang my ex-hubby up to see what he wanted for dinner he said steak etc my reply was 'fine I'll get the steak out now', that evening when he came in I put his dinner before him-he looked at it and said 'I didn't ask for this I wanted steak!!', oops did I have to bite my lip as he I had put bangers and mash infront of him!! He wasn't a happy bunny! LOL Hugs littleowl

Ah yes! I know the feeling my friend. This happens far too often these days I am afraid! Just the other day I forgot my nieces birthday for the second year in a row! I thought we were on top of it this year as my daughter had written a reminder on the whiteboard that we have on our fridge. The only problem was that she got my nieces birthday mixed up with the birthday of our dog! One is on the 17th of this month (the dog) and the other was on the 7th! (the niece) She wrote it as the other way around! We were celebrating the dogs birthday when it was actually my nieces day of birth! Good to see you here again too! :-)

LOL. Oh dear. Mind you our wedding was on the 11th at 3pm or was it the third at 11am? I was being reminded by the bride to be right up until the day before when the Best Man took over!

Actually I have. Lucky for me that they call and ask me where I am sometimes. Other times I just have to call or write an apology and try to make it up the best that I can.

How embarrassing that must've been! Before I had a computer I had a calendar and marked everything down on it. It was in the kitchen so I could see it first thing in the morning and last thing at night and I rarely missed an event. Now, I have MiniMinder on my desktop, a free program that I use. Just enter the event, time, day and it will remind you. You can even enter "BBQ at 2pm" and it will sound an alert shortly before that time. Of course, if you want the alarm the trick is to type the time an hour or so before it really is. You'll have to send your friend a funny card or take him/her a batch of cookies or something. I'm sure they've already forgiven you!

I have seen my friend and he has forgiven me. But I was soooo embarrassed. Even my computer diary didn't warn me.

Hi p1key, Lol! bet that didn't go down well, as for me I am not allowed to forget, even if I didn't want to go, they would ring me and then pick me up, most of the time I do enjoy it, like my nephew invitedc me to meet some member of my relatives I have not met before, I was enjoying the BBQ, till my eldest sister started nagging at me for being on my computer, well what does she expect me to be doing, staring at the for walls? hugs. Hey pikey! Oh no!How did you manage to miss the BBQ? Didn't you smell the ribs grillin'? I forget stuff two seconds after someone tells me and even if I do write it down, chances are I will forget where I wrote it or forget to look at! I am constantly forgetting things all the time, but then it amazes me the things I do remember from way back, many years ago! I was talking to one of my gf/neighbors on the phone today and I don't know what we were talking about (see what I mean)and I remembered some stupid song and the group who sang it! Now it was meaningless information, but I was so proud that I remembered it. But, I couldn't remember what I wanted to say 2 minutes before that!

I you have no intention of doing it intentionally then you have nothing to worry because your conscience is clear. Just apologize sincerely and you have nothing to worry. Of course, I don't guarantee good results because it depends on the other person how they will accept your apology. Bottomline, as long as you are true to yourself then you can sleep well at night.

hi pikey I think most of us have done that and I was sitting here busily typing away and got a call on the intercom. Hatley are you coming down, its 9;30, and I am going so its 9;30 then she says, Dont you want to go shopping, you signed up and I am yelling okay be right there, I had completely forgot. we have a large v an but for a place with as many people as this, its pitiful as it only holds six people. So of course as I was signed up I had dibs of the easiest seat to g et into. I think SUVs are the worst vehicle for a handicapped person to get into. But when Yara was our driver she had taught me to s tand back to the seat swing my butt in first, then with the overhead grip I could get my legs in easily. but on the passenger side there's a large space to get across and I really cannot get into the vehicle that way. sure I am a large person whom a lot of people just assume oh she can get in there just as easily as me, but wrong. When they replaced my fractured left shoulder with a false man made shoulder joint a lot of nerves were cut, as a consequence even with a lot of physical therapy I did not get back much use of my left arm. so I cannot depend on it to help me lift my whole body up about three feet like that. maybe its only two but I just could not do it so had to get in by getting on my hands and knees even with the long steel b race on my left leg, then trying to get on my feet to swing my butt around to sit on the seat eighteen inches over. the driver had to finally help me by pushing on my butt. what a horrid experince. all because this old man would not just slide over one seat and let me get in on the driver's side.that was a day of snafus as they had to make a second trip to pick us up and he did not get back til almost 12 and lunch had been over. the kitchen persons were angry at me as I was late although it was not my fault and did not want to rustle me up some lu nch so I said oh go to hell, I have food in my room I can eat. and I did, which ultimately was more healthy than what they had served. Some days maybe one should stay in bed. lol

What a palaver Hatley. I'd have stayed in the room as well. Bed can be a very good place to be at times.

Hi there p1kef1sh I do it from time to time I have to admit. I think it is because my head is full of other stuff, the not so important stuff gets forgotten and it usually arrangements with friends that fall victim such as your situation. I once got to the school in the morning to drop the kids off and they asked me if I would help to walk the kids to the swimming pool that day as I usually do it. I had a feeling I was supposed to be doing something else but couldn't think for the life of me what it was so agreed to go. When I was at the pool waiting to escort the kids back to school a got a text message from a friend asking me where I was cos she was waiting outside my house for her cuppa. I couldn't oppologise enough but at least she was stood up for a good deed so I didn't feel as bad as I might have done if I was in the pub or something haha
