Do resigning employees deserve the words of thanks from their employers?

I just resigned from a company of which I've worked for more than 8 years. As an employee, I believe I have done my best for the institution and admittedly, there is really pain deep within when I decided to resign. However, I need career advancement and bigger income, thus, I need to grab an opportunity to work with other company. I really felt the bitterness from my boss when I opened up my intention to live...though, its ok for her to feel that way, I understand but what hurts me most was when I expected to hear even some words of thanks directly from her mouth and was not able to hear it.

hi rodella! you know, it think we are in the same position - i too was at the same situation as you... and well i never really did expect them to say thank you.. i just expected them to give me sort of consolation for working as hell with their company.. but hey, i have not received any of those - but they gave me a good send off party - i was touched and i think that would be enough already, anyway... i mean, they paid us to work so i think its quit already - im sure your boss still thinks you are a loss... i heard even a better version of thank you when i left - they told me i could go back and just let them know if i needed to wanted to go back to them...

wow..its nice to hear that. I never think the employee-employer relationship would end this way. Anyways, I'm still so proud I did my best for the company when I was still working with them.
