I am personal moved by the biography of Mr. Nelson Mandela, First & Former president of the Republic of South Africa. He not only changed the Nation and made it Republic But he also made the Hearts of the People of South Africa Republic. He Build the strength of his Nation by a Game, Rugby, which was considered by black as the only Ultimate mark of representation of Whites after Freedom. Rather to eliminate the whites he developed the Brotherhood between Blacks and Whites. He also received Nobel Price for Peace for his work, That is why I like Him....Now who is your Favorite.

I have been reading biographies from the American Presidents Series. These are short books around 160 pages that hit the high or low points of each president's life and administration. I started with some of the lesser known presidents. From these books and some others, I've learned or in some cases re-learned how my country has violated the sovereignty of other countries. We've started revolutions or attacked other countries not because of freedom or liberty but because business interests. Now we finally have a president who has recognized some of our past mis-deeds and apologized and the ultra conservatives chastise him for it. I am surprised that more countries in the world don't hate us.

I tend to get bored with biographies. Though I want to read Nelson Mandela's biography. The one I like best, I guess more a memoir that a biography, was Patti Smith's Just Kids. It tells the story of her relationship with the photographer Robert Mapplethorpe in New York from the late 1960s. It was very moving and beautifully written. At the heart of it was an unconventional relationship and an uncoventional but profound love. It made me want to learn more about the life and work of both.

I currently am most interested in Florence Nightingale. She was much more than the stereotyped myth. Her abilities as an administrator were astounding and she was a pioneer statistician. Reading her reports, one hears a clear voice, lucidly written.
