hi,People say that if you take more of leafy vegetables ,carrots, tomatoes and a high amount of apple they reduce the risks of being asthmatic. Now you are already asthmatic I think you should continue with the medication but pay a closer look at what you eat.Increase the intake of leafy vegetables ,Fruits especially those that will give you Vitamin C. Monitor yourself and see over time how you fair up.If it does make a difference plan on stopping medication but you must be guided by your Doctor.

depends on how bad your asthma is. mine is fairly bad so i take my inhalors faithfully or else i risk having an attack which often lands me at the doctors or at the emergency. just be careful.

Asthma is very difficult so we need some medicine supply, specially inhaler. And its too difficult to those people who suffer asthma without money to buy thier medicine.

Yes, alot of people will put on weight when taking steroids. The steroids are getting the inflammation down in your lungs. As your asthma gets more under control, your doctor should start backing off your dose. That will help you to start losing that extra weight. That's what my doctor did on treating my asthma. I don't have to take the steroid pills anymore, although I do have a steroid inhaler I use when my asthma starts bothering me. I don't have any problems with weight gain using the inhaler.

I find it interesting how you gained weight on a steroid used to treat asthma. I was put on a steroid before, and never gained weight from it. Then again, at that time I was quite active, so any weight gain was quickly lost. However, as I've been struggling financially, I've not been able to afford much of my needed medication, such as Advair. I also found out that drinking apple juice can alleviate asthma symptoms. I tested this theory out today by buying a jug of apple juice, then drinking a glass of it. I was surprised to see that it helped, because I was getting sick of needing to use my inhaler (Ventolin and Combivent) every time I turned around. I have to ask though, while you were taking the steroids to control your asthma, were you physically active?

Just wanna ask first, is your asthma the chronic one, or the one that's seasonal? Ive had asthma since I was a kid and there were also several times when i took steroids and i gained weight, it started wen i had a minor accident. When the season changes i suffer from attacks, and i also got these allergies to many things, dust and smoke are the top causes. sometimes i even have rashes in my skin. Now that i'm already an adult i don't take meds anymore, i just keep an inhaler always in my bag in case i experience difficulty in breathing. it also prevents my asthma attacks. I think you should consult your doctor about that, because being overweight is another bad thing.

We're almost the same, honestly i finally stop taking with steroid medicine and i found out just within one month my pounds were back to normal but i suffer allergies. so, my doctor told me to try seretide inhaler. But i found out that it is also an steroid because i gain an extra pound again. So, now i finally stop it without the my doctor permission. i also now always keep my inhaler wherever i go.
