i think avira. can clean up unneccessary things at your computer.like bug files and little virus that lurks in your computer system.unlike avast that is good it can clean up virus but not bug files because i do got avast on my laptop and i always wonder i have an antivirus but didnt eliminate self bug problems. that is why i like avira than avast.

in short: avast free is a complete AV-suite Avira free is only the basic stuff(no boot-time scan, nno email scanning, no web shield and stuff) on the detection sides, AVira seems to be slightly better and also Consumes less RAM.. so ur PC will be faster.... on the whole... i THink AVira is better if u r using for home purposes. but there is NO best - it is a question of personal like or dislike

According my experiences using both free Avira anti virus and Free Avast anti virus, I think Avast is better than Avira. However, I don't use one of them as my main anti virus to protect my computer whole time. I even don't want to use Avira anymore. Avira deleted my program files (.exe) that infected sality viruses and so did Avast. But, I like to use Avast since this anti virus could be installed in safe mode of Windows XP. When my computer has been infected by viruses and I am allowed install anti virus in normal mode, I can install Avast in safe mode. After installing avast in safe mode, I can perform scan when computer booting. This will remove most viruses that infected my computers. I didn't find any advantage of Avira. This is just my experiences, perhaps other members have different view according to their experiences. Just keep in mind, no anti virus is perfect. We need to try some anti virus to remove viruses that infected our computer. I ever try AVG, Symantec, NOD32, Avira, Avast, and McAfee. For local anti virus I ever tried Ansav, PcMav and Smadav. All of them have advantages and disadvantages.

Friend according to me both antivirus are having good feature until and unless you do daily update by online. Once you done update which ever it is whether avasta or avira both are too good to prevent your pc from the online adwares and viruses. I used both so i explained about both. Both are too good to use.

As a general rule, antivirus software must be updated regularly. Both Avira and Avast has an automatic update of its virus database and this feature is a must for any antivirus software. Its up for the user to decide what antivirus he/she will use, what is important is that it is regularly updated and it suits the user's needs.

In my opinion Avira is better but I agree with other post too that all antivirus softwares have different identity, few good for trojans, few for malware, adwares, so you need to choose as per your requirement.. basically main problem with avast is, it deletes system files which mostly lead to system failure.

All of the two programs have almost similar functions but whatever uniqueness they have still nit reliable if it's only a trial version or free version try premium versions if you want full reliable functionality.

Avast has great features even it comes in a FREE version. It comes with excellent protection such as File system shield, Behaviour shield, Network shield, IM shield, Web shield and P2P shield which is quite complete for an Antivirus software. You can also perform a Boot-time scan which performs its scanning during boot-up process. It has a friendly and easy to use interface, and does not consume too much system resources. You can perform a full system scan, a quick scan and even removable drive scan. Avast also provides an automatic update of its virus database once you are connected to the Internet. The most important is that your Antivirus software must be regularly updated because new viruses are found almost everyday, and it takes a day or more for the Antivirus company to update their virus database to detect new viruses. If your Antivirus software is updated, it is much better and much reliable to use.
