No longer excited for my coming birthday...

I guess there really comes a time in everyone's life when one's birthday no longer becomes something to look forward to, rather just another day to live by. Tomorrow is that day to me, it used to be celebrated and very much anticipated, atleast by me, but now I somehow dread it, maybe not that much but I do feel that it has become overrated and now I barely want it to come. Maybe, another fact is the reminder that this day brings, the reminder that another year of life has passed and not much have been achieved. For an achiever in my early years, I have nothing to be proud of these days though. Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful to be still alive but just depressed over my current status in life. I mean, a lot has been expected of me and I have come out short. Anyway, this is just me. Just want to share something out before my birthday comes. Thank you all!

I stopped caring about my birthday by the time I turned 10. For some reason, birthdays really didn't, and still don't interest me. I'll be turning 40 in January & everybody's making a big deal about big "four o" but I don't know. But for what it's worth, happy coming birthday.

Age of 10? Sorry to hear about that. I guess something must have happened to make you stop caring about that day that early. Anyway, Thank you for the greeting!

Ha ha ha... No, nothing dramatic happened, I wasn't abused or kicked in the head or beaten with the belt or anything that resembles that of something terrible. Some kids grow out of different types of toys. I just grew out of birthdays. As weird as it may sound, I just didn't like being made big fuzz over my birthday. "Yey!!!! I was born today 10 years ago..................... Now what?" Nothing wrong with celebrating birthdays, I just feel, ehhh, about it.

No matter what, I believe every birthday is a blessing and worth being thanked about. While it is true that those who are no longer young and those who are having some problems may not find celebrating their birthdays necessary, I still believe that just being thankful to God about giving us one more year to live will suffice. Life is short... it is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Is it not a blessing to note that our life has not vanished yet? God is still giving us the blessing of life and we ought to thank Him for that!

I do agree with you on the part of thanking God for another year of life. In fact, it is the only thing that should remain constant not only on birthdays but every day of life. Still, thee are times when reality of life hits you hard especially on your birthday and so you tend to not be so rejoicing about it.

First and foremost, advance Happy Birthday to you. Anyway, I have also experienced that loss of excitement when my birthday is right around the corner and probably even the day of my birthday itself. I guess aside from the fun we had when we were young, I guess its much more enjoyable back then because of how little our problems we have in our lives. But as we grow older each year, we face new trials, new problems, lots of responsibilities, etc. Like you also mentioned, expectations that came out short that leads to bitter disappointments .. So I guess for me, my birthday ain't that exciting and fun anymore even if I may have balloons, clowns, parties and what not. Reality still sinks in the next day. And we're back again to the daily stresses we have in life.

Thank you for the greeting! You've got it all right. The frustrations real life brings every day really hit us hard and no amount of celebration can make it look good.

I don't get excited for my birthdays either. I don't really find the point in celebrating birthdays anymore and I know it is kind of weird because I'm still pretty young. It's the older people who don't look forward to their birthday( I didn't mean to offend anyone just then) I still enjoy living...it's just that I don't see a point in birthdays anymore.

Hi choybel, I really believe that birthday party for celebrating our birthdays are over exaggerated. In years past, when your birthday came, it was a celebration of life, joy, and being grateful for another year of precious life. Who can change the condition of your life? Only you can decide that each day is a brand new opportunity to achieve something worthwhile before your next birthday come. The agony of defeat or having an unproductive life is your to overcome. Everyday you wakeup is the beginning of something new or you will allow it to be the same as yesterday, and nothing changes. The rut that you are in, the negative mindset, the lack of ambition will be a part of your life, until you shake them loose. YOU have the power within you to achieve happiness.

This year 29, next year 30. I also don't even get exited of growing older each days. The achievements dreamed of since start having a real ambition not yet achieved and still single (that's might because I am picky). Anyway, same with me now, kind of depressed with the current status of life. That's why I always wish for the days in life for me would end but in a peaceful ways. But I am not completely lost hope, and still struggle until I gain a bit of what I wish to achieve.
